About Hunni ~ Maltese x Shih Tzu, senior (Trial 8/5/18)
Hunni Bunni is a 9yo, Maltese x Shih Tzu girl looking for love. She is a charming and amusing little companion that will brighten your days. She just loves to be with you. She walks nicely on lead and enjoys going for little walks around the neighbourhood. She travels well in the car and comes when called. She's easy to please as far as food's concerned. If it's in her bowl she'll eat it. Sometimes she'll amuse herself by tossing a toy around.
Hunni is an inside dog and is well housetrained. She likes exploring in the garden but mostly she prefers to be inside with her foster mum. She likes to sleep in a bedroom, either in a dog bed or snuggled up with a person if allowed. She doesn't shed so she's very clean. She has a beautiful, soft, low shedding coat which needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep her comfortable and beautiful. Don't tell Hunni, but she's a wee bit overweight at 7.5kg. A daily walk and healthy diet will soon have her beach ready.
Hunni shows no interest in the chickens in their hutch in the backyard. We haven't tested her with cats yet but we think she'd be fine. We can test her if required.
Hunni's foster carer has young children visiting frequently and Hunni is very good with them; of course, all children should understand to be gentle with dogs and not try to pick them up. Hunni is best suited to a more mature individual, couple or family as she prefers a slower pace of life. She needs a home where there is someone who doesn't work full time. She would be very happy to be an only dog so she can soak up all the attention. But she could also live with another placid, easy-going dog.
Hunni became homeless after a family break down but she adapted immediately to her foster home. We think she'll settle into her forever like she's always been there. Small dogs like Hunni typically live 15 or 16 years so she still has plenty of love to give and time to enjoy her new home.
She is a bright, happy, affectionate, well behaved little girl and perfect companion. We look forward to finding her a home where she will receive attention, care and love.
For more information or to meet Hunni, please contact Terri by sending email dogrescuenewcastle@gmail.com. Optional: download an Adoption Questionnaire from http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx, fill it in, then email it to Terri.
Hunni is in foster care in Belmont, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle). Her adoption fee is $250 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Medical notes
Hunni had a benign lump removed from under the skin on her chest. She has some other bumps but they're common for her age and nothing to worry about. She runs around and is happy and pain free.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
