About Roxy ~ Jack Russell x Chihuahua (on trial 26-4-18)
Say hi to the effervescent Roxy, a tiny 4kg bundle of the cheekiest, funniest and cutest antics going. Roxy is 3 years old and has been registered as a Jack Russell cross Pug. However, our vet and vet nurses are all in agreeance with her carer that she is most likely a Pug cross Chihuahua with her tiny features and long slender legs.
Roxy came into care when her previous owners had a change in living arrangements and we quickly realised she had been living in pain with a luxating patella. Dog Rescue Newcastle paid for her to have corrective surgery, she is set to make a full recovery and we are confident she is now pain free. She is still figuring out it is now ok to use her left leg and with the right exercise, including some swimming, she will build her muscles back up.
Deciding on the perfect home for Roxy is going to be tricky, because many would assume she might just like to be a lap dog, sitting watching daytime TV. Don’t get us wrong, she will definitely claim a spot on the lounge and give great cuddles when it suits her, but Roxy has discovered that she absolutely loves the beach since being in care. She has also been with other dogs her whole life and adores the company of her 2 foster brothers. She loves a good game of chase with our Kelpie and doesn’t seem to notice she is only as big as his head.
So, ideally she would love a young, active retired couple who will take her on great adventures and also own another dog. Or perhaps a family with someone home a lot, but not with young children who could accidentally hurt her. She does bark at new people when first introduced, but comes around very quickly. She has loved everyone she meets, however has tried to claim her foster mum as her own a few times and would therefore need someone who is familiar with “little dog” antics and not let her develop any naughty behaviours.
Roxy is a great little guard dog, is happy being left while her people do people things and is toilet trained. She is a one in a million little dog and once bonded, looks at you with the most adoring eyes you’ve ever seen. She is a total heartbreaker and will bring so much joy to her new family.
For more information or to meet Roxy, please contact his foster carer Lauren on hitthesand@hotmail.com. Roxy is in foster care in Salamander Bay, NSW and is available for adoption interstate.
Roxy’s adoption fee is $500 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
