About Floyd
Meet Floyd, a wonderfully friendly, intelligent, and energetic Red Heeler X Kelpie pup.
Floyd has a lovely temperament, enjoys spending time with his human family, and playing vigorously with his canine family. Floyd is fully toilet trained, is a very polite eater, and loves to sleep on his favourite humans bed.
Currently in care with a large family and lots of other animals, he is great with kids, visitors, other dogs, and safe with confident cats. Being a working dog breed, he has a strong instinct to round up the cats and small animals. Training him not to do this is working but it will be an ongoing project if he is in a home with these kinds of animals. He does respond to consistent training and redirection.
Floyd has been tested with cattle and shows strong potential to be great at working them. As a pup he was introduced to sheep and also showed great instincts for working them well at that early stage. He has not been tested with horses yet.
He unfortunately gets carsick on rides more than 15 minutes long, but has come to enjoy his short trips in the car to the park, along with his canine foster family. With natural treatments (such as smell association), and/or time for further maturing, the car sickness may reduce or even go away completely.
Floyd has picked up basic command training reasonably quickly, and he learns games very readily. He is a bright boy and is keen to please his humans! In the short weeks that he has been with his foster family, even in the face of distractions, they have seen him improve with how quickly he will give his attention over to them.
Floyd breezes through 12 km runs with his carer like they were just a warm up. This boy ideally needs to be in a home where someone loves to keep themselves very fit and can take him with them, or out on a property where he can be working some good solid hours every day. He has energy to burn and likes to have a job to do!
Floyd will need great fencing and a de-sexed equally active dog companion, if he is to be kept in suburbia, as well as a good amount of mental and physical exercise daily.
Or, he would love a farmyard setup where the dynamics are naturally conducive to an active working dogs' needs. We believe he would do well in either setting, so long as these needs could be met consistently.
If you think Floyd might be the handsome, energetic pup you've been looking for, we would love to hear from you!
Adoption details
If you think one of our animals would be a good match for your home please email us and we will be in touch shortly after. We all work fulltime, have families and other commitments so your patience is appreciated.
We do require any other dogs in your home meeting our foster animal before they head home with you. This enables us to assess their compatibility and helps prevent them being returned and creating more confusion/insecurities for the foster animal.
All our animals are available for a two week trial with full refund. They are also covered by a lifetime return policy. If you ever find yourself unable to care for or keep your pet please contact us and they will come back into our care, this is a condition of our Adoptions.
