About Akira
Akira | Female | 1y 6mo | Siberian Husky
Akira is an 18 month old female Siberian Husky. She is on the petite side for a Husky, but don't let her size fool you! She is an extremely strong-willed girl who isn’t afraid to ignore every word that comes out of your mouth.
Whilst Akira is very independent, she is happier around people. She will love to have some company throughout the day and her humans will have to be engaging! Akira needs the mental challenge as much as she needs her daily exercise. Akira attended a two week boot camp with the folks at the National Dog Trainers Federation (NDTF) and she has learned the basic commands due to time constraints of the program, but she has a lot of potential to achieve so much more! If you enjoy dog obedience training, then Akira is the dog for you! Her eyes just light up if she has to work!
If Akira is is feeling lonely and bored she will be expressing this without delay! As with any young dog, she can be a bit naughty and loves digging in the lawn for fun! And all efforts made to improve this have failed. So if you are precious about your garden and lawn then Akira is not the dog for you!
Akira would be indifferent if she had another for company, but that being said she gets along with other dogs and she would suit a home with another dog of similar size, age, energy level and play style.
If you have another dog in the home, we have warned you :) that Akira is very cheeky and will push boundaries with other dogs. For example, she will try to steal food from the other dog if given a chance, so feeding time will have to be monitored so the other canine resident doesn't go hungry!
Akira is naturally curious and extremely athletic, so she will require strong dig proof 6-foot fencing to keep her secure. With that said, Akira is also a smoochy little fluff ball, and will let you know when you’re not giving her enough attention with copious face licks while sitting with you on the couch.
She can be the opposite when meeting new people, being aloof, indifferent and she can take quite a while to warm to a new people and a new environment. Any introductions and changes should be done with that in mind.
Huskies have a strongly-entrenched prey drive and will want to chase and hunt small animals. However, Akira has lived with a cat and she showed some hope that with diligent owners she could learn to accept a feline friend into her pack. That being said she was always supervise and there are no guarantees for success as being ok with one cat does not mean she will see others cats in the same light.
She is extremely strong despite her petite size, and she can be a challenge to walk on lead. Her new family will have to take the working whislt walking approach, as with the ongoing obedience we have not doubt loose leash walking can be achieved. She loves her walks, but they will do little to wear her out. She needs the ongoing mental stimulation and her new family will have skill and experience to keep her engaged and out of mischief. She is best suited to a family with adults, or a family with children in their teens that is breed experienced, active and committed to training.
