About Gerry D3832
Hello! My name’s Gerry. I’m a real sweetie, and I love to play! Foster-mum says I'm a loving pup - and that's true! I love foster-mum, I love to play, I love my food, and I love a cuddle! Pretty loving, hey? I have lovely prominent ears and am expected to grow to a medium size.
I'm really good with kitty cats, older dogs, and I got along sorta okay with a partially grumpy older cat (I was fine, it was her that was a bit standoffish!), but when I met foster-dad, I was a bit petrified. Over the next few days and with his patience, I warmed up to him, but I really just can’t explain why. Foster-mum thinks that maybe I had a bad experience with a man once, and now I’m a little jittery around them. But I do get over it quite quickly!
I’M LEARNING
I’m at the puppy teething age now, so tell me “no” if I’m chewing something I shouldn’t and give me a chew toy instead. We puppies like to have a range of chew toys that you can swap around so we don’t get bored with them. I tend to jump a little with visitors. With firm boundaries and regular training, this’ll be gone in no time!
My foster carer is training me to feel more relaxed around my food as I still think it’s going to be taken from me. You can talk to my carer about my progress. Once I’ve got this mastered, I’ll be great in a home with children as I am a gentle boy.
Want to know more about how to teach me to be a great dog? We dogs respond well to calm, assertive and consistent human leadership. I’d like daily training so that I learn and practice sit, stay, come, down, no, stop and leave it. Then I will remember how to obey what you tell me to do. As well as those commands, if you give me clear and consistent boundaries it will mean that I always know the right way to behave. Socialising with lots of people, dogs and other animals is important too because I’ll learn not to be fearful. Getting out and about to exercise at least once a day is vital for me as it stimulates my brain and body, creates opportunities for me to socialise and it tires me out. It will stop me from being a dog that creates mischief at home out of boredom!!!! That’s after I’ve been fully vaccinated and the vaccine has had the required time afterwards to take effect, of course!
I CAN FLY!
A few hours flying is absolutely worth it for remotely located animals if it means we have the opportunity to be adopted. My airfare to Perth is $150 thanks QANTAS, and I can fly elsewhere in Australia too.
