About Pixie
Pixie's foster carer has made it clear: she has to be adopted asap!
Why you may ask? Is it because Pixie's no longer welcome? Is she difficult?
No! Quite the opposite. Pixie's foster mum describes her as the perfect dog and she's absolutely besotted by her.
Pixie's foster family love her so much that the longer she stays, the harder it will be to say goodbye.
However, their loss could be your gain, as whoever adopts Pixie is adopting a very special girl. Despite her health concerns, Pixie is just a total love bug and she is such a loyal and devoted companion.
Pixie has lived in a home with other dogs, but we think that she'd prefer to not have to share her human. We won't rule out homes with other dogs, but a relaxed doggy companion would be best. Pixie has lived with cats and pays them no attention.
Pixie was surrendered by her owner who was very sad to say goodbye to her. However, she had seen some dramatic changes in Pixie's behaviour and due to some major life changes she felt unable to cope with Pixie's care.
When Pixie came into care, she was diagnosed with Cushing’s Disease within days of arriving. Dogs with untreated Cushing’s often feel very sick and anxious, and sure enough we saw a major change in Pixie's behaviour after she started medication for her Cushing’s. She was happier within weeks, and she's lost weight and is less lethargic.
Pixie enjoys a walk but she's not a highly energetic dog. She's happy to plod along beside you on an afternoon stroll, but is also just as content watching TV beside you on the couch.
Pixie has lived with children and is very patient however would really rather not share her home with little ones so we do not recommend a home with kids under 12 years.
Pixie does suffer some distress when left alone for long periods too frequently so would do best in a home with company.
Medical notes
Carrie Traynor-Doble All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside, Jindalee, Browns Plains or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant x-rays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heartworm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Pixie has a condition called Cushings Disease. She takes daily Trilostane which does cost about $25 per week. She needs regular blood tests to ensure her Cushings is under control, and these may continue to be as frequently as 3-6 monthly.
