About Ben & Jerry
Ben and Jerry are two inquisitive and friendly one year old boys (rats) who are looking for their new furever home.
They're social and good with handling (have been handled since a young age so are play & cuddle-friendly) and need to be rehomed together as they're a bonded pair.
Ben is cream and white, and Jerry is grey and white.
Their owner is unable to care for them anymore so we are advertising them directly from the owner (where they are) to a new home. We cannot offer a trial period however this may be discussed with the former owner if required.
The adoption fee is a donation directly to Canberra Pet Rescue to the successful new owner.
The boys are healthy and will also come with their enclosure and feed bowls.
If you'd like to enquire please respond via the online enquiry form and advise of who occupies and visits the home (including animals), whether you own or rent (and have permission from landlord of renting), whether you have any experience with rats, and anything else relevant.

3. A meeting is organised to meet the rats and if successful (both the former owner and new owner are happy) then adoption goes ahead
4. New owner makes adoption fee donation to Canberra Pet Rescue bank account

*IMPORTANT INFO ON RATS-
Good husbandry is very important with rats, with many diseases being preventable by ensuring that they are kept appropriately.
Appropriate diet, cleaning of the cage and appropriate exercise are all very important to keep your rat healthy.
Ammonia is produced in rat excrement and rats are sensitive to high ammonia levels in the air, which can lead to serious respiratory tract infections. Keeping a cage clean and tidy helps to keep ammonia levels down and avoid potential problems.
Rats are sensitive to the heat and may experience heat exhaustion when temperatures are in excess of 30°c. In some cases heat exhaustion can be very severe and can lead to death. It is important to keep your pet rat cool on hot days, especially if they are living in a warm part of the house. Make sure to provide plenty of cool water, fruit and vegetables on hot days. Frozen water bottles can be provided as a cool object for your rat to lie against on a hot day.
Rats live on average for 2-3.5 years.
