About Rosalie
I NEED SOMEONE TO LOVE!
Miss Rosalie has survived life on the street. Roaslie has also survived cancer.
Rosalie came to us from a Sydney kill shelter with an undiagnosed lesion on her nose. She had a biopsy of the lesion sent away for testing and grading, which confirmed our worst fear - she had cancer. The same day she was had an ultrasound to rule out pregnancy, which was negative allowing surgery to go ahead. She was also tested for FIV Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. She tested positive which allowed us to use precautionary measures to reduce risks of infection which FIV cats can have a weaker resistance to. The vet gave her an otherwise clean bill of health.
Before you overlook adopting Rosalie! Please read the couple of myths below, as well as do some reading and research such as the links in the "medical" section below.
MYTH #1: The FIV test proves your cat has a Deadly Disease - not at all. Cats that have FIV can have long, healthy and happy lives
MYTH #2: FIV+ cats will lead short , miserable lives and eventually die from cat AIDS - like all cats if they are kept healthy and happy they can live long fulfilling lives
MYTH #3: The FIV virus is a serious threat to other cats, dogs, pocket pets and humans - The virus is feline specific.
MYTH #4: There is no point adopting An FIV+ Cat - Rosalie is a special, loving and beautiful natured girl with so much life and love
MYTH #5: FIV is not feline AIDS.
The nasal biopsy came back with our worst fear. Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Which meant another surgery to remove the remainder of the infected tissue with healthy to ensure all the cancerous tissue is removed and prevent it from spreading further on her nose, as well as around her body .
A "rhinectomy", removal of nasal tissue, was completed to remove the cancerous tissue. She recovered extremely well, and stayed in high spirits through her recovery.
She had two more follow up surgeries, one to correct sutures to allow her to breath comfortablely and place an oesophageal feeding tube to provide nutrition when she found it difficult to eat. The other was for desexing, which showed she had cystic ovaries.
Pathology came back a couple days after the rhinectomy. The margins were clear, we got it all! She is cancer free!
She is such an amazing little girl. She is so gentle and kind, just laying without fuss for an ultrasound and blood tests. She loves her head bumps and scratches. She even has a wicked purr.
Rosalie is such a special little lady who is looking for the most spectacular home.
