About Big Red
Big Red is like a great big 22 kg puppy. He has a very nice nature, and despite his manly looks is not very macho at all. He gets on with all the dogs and if one of them gets cross with him he backs off quickly. He's a lover not a fighter, that's for sure. He is often to be found curled up on a bed with a couple of other dogs, sometimes with a puppy tucked into him. He plays with the other dogs nicely, and loves it if one of them will play tug with a tug toy. He is also very playful and gentle with the puppies, who think he is the bee's knees. He really enjoys the hard dog toys that squeak and loves balls as well. Red is a very smart dog, and very trainable. He has already learnt to walk nicely on the lead, sit while his dinner is being put out, and has stopped jumping up. He often wanders up for a pat, pushes his big head through the other dogs and puts his head on your lap for a lovely pat. He is so affectionate and loving. He has a bush walk off lead with a bunch of other rescue dogs every day, and while he enjoys his walk he doesn't run off, just explores as he goes along and keeps close by and in sight. He is a good boy too at coming back when he is called. While Big Red has a moderate exercise requirement, but because of his intelligent active mind, he has a high stimulation requirement.
Big Red came to us through the Tennant Creek Pound. He was advertised widely but no one came forward for him, so he has made his way to us for rehoming. We think he would make a great friend for another active playful dog, and be fun for someone who has an outdoorsy active lifestyle. He would be very rewarding to do dog obedience with and would be great at agility.
Our rescue and rehabilitation work happens in Central Australia, but because of the scarcity of adopters locally, our re-homing operation is in South Australia. Big Red's adoption fee includes crate hire, courier transport by road from Tennant Creek to Alice Springs, and a direct flight from Alice Springs to Adelaide. Big Red is currently in foster care in Elliott NT.
