Meet Cooper! Now this is a rescue story...

Cooper is a Dane x Mastiff and is only 5 years old! He came into rescue in October 2017 when one of Happy Tails dedicated carers came across him. Cooper was one of the most broken dogs she had ever came across. His previous owner abused him for who knows how long, even doing awful things like hitting him with wooden chairs and whipping him with hoses. He then dumped him at his cousins place where he was living under the house. She could only afford to feed him every 3 days so he was lacking in energy and was losing weight. Cooper was petrified of humans and shook and froze when trying to be rescued but not an ounce of aggression even in fear.

Due to the state of the poor gentleman, he was taken to the vets immediately. Unfortunately Cooper’s sad tale gets even worse. Poor Cooper was diagnosed with a Mast Cell Tumour in his leg!

He was then placed in our care and we were so excited to meet him and provided a safe place for this beautiful boy. Once arriving at our house he stood at the doorway for about 30 minutes not knowing what to do. After finally convincing him he can come in he sat on the couch looking confused. He had never seen a comfy place to sleep let alone a whole couch. Cooper settled in pretty quickly with us and with his foster sister Bull Arab Quinn.

However it did take him a long time to realise that the world wasn’t meant to be a scary place. He would be frightened if we would lift things through the house as he was afraid we were going to throw it at him. It broke our hearts. After many cuddles and play sessions he was finally learning how to just be a dog. Sleep, eat well and run and play. Fortunately due to a number of generous donations Cooper was able to have his tumour removed which was such an exciting moment for us and he is now on the mend.

Cooper is such a beautiful boy and just wants to lay and cuddle us on the couch. It’s his favourite place and would be quite happy to stay there for the rest of his days.
