About Nelson ~ 1 year old Kelpie X (on trial 10-4-2018)
Please say hello to Nelson, a 1 year old Kelpie x. Nelson can only be described as ‘special’. Nelson came into care after a particularly rough start to life. It was obvious he had suffered quite a bit of physical and emotional abuse, resulting in his needing a surgical procedure to repair his hip. When Nelson came into care he initially needed lots of patience, food, kindness, love and physical care. It didn’t take long for young Nelson to discover that not all people were bad & he is now bravely giving life another go. While Nelson will certainly require much ongoing patience and training, he has already proven he loves pats, walks, people, playtime, other dogs & juicy bones. In fact he is quite possibly the bravest little dog that ever was!
Nelson remains timid in new environments and occasionally reverts to being afraid and crouching to the ground. He has never shown any signs of aggression. He is extremely alert and respondent to your every move. His intelligence and loyalty are obvious - he is proving to be easy to train, though it is important to take everything slowly and quietly with Nelson.
Nelson is excellent with children both big and small, he does not jump up, rarely barks and is not an escape artist. He had not been tested with cats. He travels well, is completely toilet trained and is happy to sleep both inside or outside - though he prefers to be with you as much as possible. His ideal home would include enough space for him to stretch his legs - he has lots of energy!
Due to Nelson’s past injury and his subsequent limp he may not be used as a working dog, he will however require daily walks. Nelson is currently thriving within a large busy family and a similar home would suit him well. It is very important that Nelson’s forever family understand his need for kind firm training. He dislikes loud voices and unpredictable behaviour.
For more information or to meet Nelson, please send and adoption questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx to his foster carer Olivia on livandmattcarson@mail.com. Nelson is in foster care in Port Stephens area, NSW and is available for adoption interstate.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
