About Evie
Evie has a meet and greet on Saturday with a prospective adopter. Evie is a sweet natured girl who has suffered tremendously in her life. When she was seized by animal control staff, she had suffered an awful injury to her eye and shelter vets had no option but to remove it. Additionally, she had severe dental disease and infection, an enormous inguinal hernia, multiple mammary tumours and a heart murmur.
Evie was nicknamed Sweetie by shelter staff because she was so lovely natured, despite the terrible abuse she'd endured. Shelter Behaviourists observed her to be completely shut down and she sat in a cage curled up in a ball silently. Although Evie was in NSW, the shelter staff contacted us as it was clear she needed specialist care. A wonderful CRQ volunteer drove her to QLD in the days leading up to Christmas.
Since arriving in Brisbane, Evie has continued to flourish. One by one her health problems have been addressed. Her heart was assessed as stable and not requiring medication after an ECG and vet examinations. Her tumours were removed and hernia repaired. Her rotten teeth have been extracted and she now has a beautiful smile.
As well as her medical issues being addressed, little Evie has settled into her foster home and has started to come out of her shell. But she is still a shy girl and will need an understanding family.
She loves other dogs and will snuggle into her foster carers dogs for comfort. She's found her voice, although she is not a problem barker. Evie loves company and when her foster mum isn't looking she's quick to sneak up on her bed and snuggle into the pillows. Evie enjoys life in a loving home.
The best home for Evie is a quiet home with another little dog for company, this is a must and most of all she wants her adopter to be home most of the time, she is not the sort of dog that will go for walks, she is a special girl who suffered terrible abuse, she will need an understanding adopter willing to continue working with her and giving her the loving home she deserves.
Evie seeks comfort from her crate when she's feeling unsure so a crate/den set up will help her feel relaxed and safe.

Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside, Jindalee, Browns Plains or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant X-rays and medical notes.
Evie had a long list of health issues when she was first rescued. We have addressed these as best we can before adoption.
Evie was abused and was seized by animal inspectors with a horrendous eye injury. Sadly her eye could not be saved. Due to her terrible past, she was very frightened at first. The shelter vets prescribed trazadone for her anxiety. The Evie we know and love now could definitely be weaned off her anxiety medication. However we have chosen to keep her on it for the rehoming process as it will help keep her anxiety levels down when she moves to her forever home. However we feel she should be able to be taken off this medication once she's settled in her new home.
Evie has a heart murmur. At this stage, it does not require medication and has been thoroughly assessed via chest X-rays and an ECG.
Evie also has luxating patellas. They don't seem to bother her and our vet has advised that due to her heart condition, such a major orthopedic surgery is not in her best interests. For this reason, she was not a good candidate for surgical repair. We feed
When she came to us, Evie had mammary tumours which have been removed. Although our vets removed all the cancerous tissue, there is a small chance that tumours could reoccur. We are hopeful this won't be the case.
Evie also had a large hernia that required two major surgeries to repair. She has fully healed now.
