About Duke (and Dutchess)
In order to meet Duke and Dutchess please complete this form https://www.dogadoption.org.au/expression-of-interest---adoption.html
This bonded pair must be re-homed together. If separated they will get distressed. Duke has the spots and is the smaller dog.
Located Innaloo WA 6018
Generally.
Duke and Dutchess are a loyal and devoted pair. Duke loves playing with a ball and has novel ways of gaining his owner’s attention so they will play – testimony to his intelligence. Both are affectionate but Dutchess craves cuddles a little more.
They are bright, happy, friendly, affectionate and playful dogs that are mostly well behaved, smart and easy to train.
Ideal home.
This breed is always popular and in the right environment typically suffer few behavioural problems. Their family needs to be active and young enough to keep up with them. Any kids will need to be old enough to handle their playfulness. They require a large secure grassy yard or acreage so they can run free and play 'chase' with each other.
They will not suit homes where residents are young, frail, elderly or time poor. We recommend the new owner have experience with the breed or at least not novice dog owners as Duke and Dutchess need plenty of exercise AND mental stimulation.
Other dogs?
Yes. Duke makes friends easily. Dutchess is timid around new dogs and people (may hide for a while) but is friendly once she warms up.
Cats?
No.
Kids?
Yes. Dutchess might accidentally knock over a small child with excitement. We recommend any kids be primary school aged or older and only if gentle and calm around animals.
Size.
Duke 12 kgs. Dutchess 20 kgs
Exercise requirements?
High. This breed typically needs plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. You cannot miss a day. Duke loves playing with balls and Dutchess loves chasing Duke.
On a lead?
Like most dogs Duke starts off pulling but settles. Dutchess is well behaved. They are both strong dogs.
Off the lead?
Both usually stay close by and come when called. Due to his love of balls, Duke can become distracted by others playing with balls in the hope he can join in the game.
Escape artist?
They currently live in a courtyard without any problems - they don’t try to get out. The dogs don’t have a tendency to want to run away once bonded to their family. We recommend a large secure grassy yard or acreage.
Nuisance barker or destructive?
Duke will alert you to something strange near the property and Dutchess only when bored. Duke may dig in the sand if bored.
Toilet trained?
Yes.
Tolerance to being alone.
As long as they have space and each other they are fine.
Likes.
Duke likes balls, food and squeaky toys. Dutchess loves cuddles and both love belly rubs.
Dislikes.
Duke doesn’t like tight cuddles and Dutchess is timid around new comers but is fine once she is confident they are friendly.

______________________________________
We strongly recommend you read the profile carefully where everything we know about the dog/s is outlined.
If you are interested in a dog we invite you to submit an application form so we can learn more about your circumstances. This is to ensure we match the right dog to the best home. (one form per family - not per dog) https://www.dogadoption.org.au/expression-of-interest---adoption.html
This is for the benefit of both the dog and the potential new owner/s. It also saves time and uses limited resources more effectively.
Once the essential criteria is confirmed we put you in touch with the carer for a more detailed chat with a view of meeting the dog/s.
If you decide to proceed with the adoption we make a time for a house check.
The adoption fee is then paid (there is a 2 week cooling off period.) Please note we do not usually allow trials.
Foster carers are also able to adopt foster dogs once approved.
