About Maverick D0599 on trial 11/3/18
Maverick is a very handsome, med-large dog who is affectionate and playful. His favourite thing in the world is being near his people and rolling over for tummy rubs or cuddles. He also likes the water and enjoys a cool down in his clam shell. We are not sure if fully house trained but he's a smart dog and quick to learn. He can be a little reluctant to get into the car currently: this is quite common with rescue dogs who are not sure where they are being taken to! Once he settles into his forever home this should improve and he travels well in the car once he is inside.
ENERGY LEVEL & REQUIREMENTS
Maverick is an active dog who likes playing and his walks. He can sometimes jump up when he first meets people as he is excited but his carers are working on helping him understand he gets treats when all 4 paws are on the ground. He really loves interacting with his family, so ideally his new owners will not leave him for long hours on his own. Puzzle toys or a good bone will help keep him busy when you go out. He will require daily walks and although he can pull initially a little on lead he gets better as he settles into the walk. His recall is a little hit and miss so this is a work in progress. Maverick will benefit from regular socialisation with other dogs to maintain his current friendliness.
SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN
Maverick's carers don't have children so we have not been able to fully assess his suitability to a home with kids however he met lots of children at our recent adoption day and was friendly to all. May be suited to older children given that he is quite bouncy, however.
SUITABILITY TO DOGS & CATS
Maverick has met both large and small dogs and his preference is definitely for bigger dogs. He seems to get on well with dogs of his own size/energy but doesn't know what to make of small dogs - probably hasn't met any before. So he will need reminders not to be too keen to say hello to little dogs when he sees them walking etc. Maverick is untested with cats.
