About Delilah ~ Kelpie puppy (on trial 11-2-18)
Hey there Delilah, what’s it like to be so pretty! And isn’t she just, with her gorgeous grey eyes, soft shiny coat and cute white striped face. This 6 week old bub is going to be an absolute beauty. Delilah also has personality plus. She can be a terror when it comes to play time and is currently exploring the world with her mouth. This is very common for pups, but she does seem to like giving everything a good once over to make sure her humans are safe from the killer toys!
This pup definitely has spunk. She will be a great family dog and will add laughter to your day with her antics. Not one to be outdone by her siblings, she will make sure she gets her fair share of pats and cuddles. She is quite curious about the water bowls and would probably love an active beach family who will include her on adventures. Delilah comes when called and tries very hard to engage her big foster brother in play. It would be good to have another dog in the yard for companionship and tug o war battles when her owners are out.
Delilah is awaiting vet assessment and her first vaccination. We anticipate she should be ready for her new home week commencing the 19th of February when she will be turning 10 weeks old. Being a very young pup, Delilah will not be able to be left for long periods of time, so will need a family where someone is home most of the time. She will need a secure yard with no gaps in fencing and might struggle with stairs until she gets a bit bigger. It is an absolute must that she be allowed to sleep inside at least until fully grown. Kelpies require minimum 5ft fencing.
Being a working breed, she will be full of energy. The time and work you put into her as a pup will determine her temperament as an adult. Puppy school and continued training are always recommended to create a strong bond with a new pup and teach them the skills to live happily in a new home and family. Small children must also be monitored around young pups to ensure they are handled correctly and a positive relationship is created on both sides. Please consider the needs and energy levels of a Kelpie before you apply. They must join an active family who will give them daily exercise and activities to keep their mind occupied. If they do not receive this and become bored, they can resort to nuisance behaviours purely to pass the time. They are not a breed for low energy households.
As Delilah is not yet desexed, she is only available for adoption to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens because she'll need to be returned to our vet for desexing when she's approximately 5 months old.
Delilah is currently in care in Port Stephens. As we anticipate a lot of interest in her, please contact her carer Lauren via email at hitthesand@hotmail.com You will be asked to complete an adoption questionnaire which you will find if you follow the link below or alternatively, visit the Dog Rescue Newcastle website, click on “How to Adopt” and complete the questionnaire from there.
Delilah’s adoption fee is $550 and includes her desexing, vaccinations and microchipping and she's been treated for fleas and worms.
Medical notes

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
