About Chops
Hi my name is Chops. Sadly I need a new home because my owners circumstances have changed which means I’m on my own most of the time which as you would know a Stafford doesn’t like very much at all.
I’ve had my behavioural assessment which shows I’m a good boy.
I will copy and paste part of that below along with what my current mum has kindly written for me, Jan said she wished more people surrendering their dogs would be as helpful as my mum has been.
Summary of Test –summary of observation and testing
• Chops has calm and docile disposition.
• He is a very sociable dog with humans and enjoys human interaction and some contact.
• Generally tolerant of touch but was a little wriggly with restraint and touching his tail indicating he may not be overly comfortable with these.
• He knows sit and drop but at very basic levels. He is responsive to his name and walks on the lead nicely.
• Chops has mid level energy and drives but does enjoy a tug game. He doesn’t let go easily but did when presented with some food.
• He was not interested in eating too much but didn’t show any resource guarding.
• Tolerant of sounds but became a little wary of raised/gruff voice.
• Nil reactivity/aggression evident with other dogs at time of testing but would recommend testing with other dogs.
Below is what my mum wrote on SRV’s questionnaire.
Please write any commands you have taught your dog to pass onto their new owners.?
Sit/Stay/Good Boy!
Gentle - when you want him to softly take and eat what is in your hand (without using his teeth)
Slow - to slow down his walking speed if he sees other dogs in the distance.
Drop - to drop/rest on his tummy on the floor
On your mat/bed - to direct him to settle on his resting spots
Good dog - when he is behaving positively
Get the ball - retrieving his ball during outdoor playtime
Don't go huffin' - Chops will let out a distinctive little huff when he doesn't get his way.
Please add anything else it would be helpful for us to know ?
Chops enjoys treats like Greenies, banana pieces, blueberries, cooked egg, crackers, corn flakes.
Chops gets hot quickly and during summer he often needs mid-walk breaks to let his body cool down (and lots of fresh water)
Chops is used to cuddling on the sofa with me after dinner to watch an hour or two of television all together before bedtime
What would you write for this dogs profile that might attract people to apply for him/her?
Hi! My name is Chops and I am a 7 year old, medium-sized male. I am looking for my new home as the couple who were loving and looking after me have had a change of life circumstance and they want to make sure I continue to be cared for in the best possible way. I am at my very happiest and most settled when I am able to be near you and indoors most of the time. I enjoy greeting visitors at the door but can get a little too excited and need to remind myself not to jump up but I love letting everyone know that I am happy to see them. I love being around children too but I have never lived with children before. I am a very gentle, loving and cuddly dog but I can also be quite determined to sniff lots of trees and explore new places during our walks together. When I visit our local cafe I enjoy getting cuddles and ruffles from cafe visitors and watching big water sprinklers is very exciting for me. I am not a big fan of vacuum cleaners (I like to chase them down!) and other dogs can sometimes be a little scared of me and may bark or growl but I never bark back because that is not how you make new friends.
So if you think you can offer me a good forever home where you’ll be able to give me all the above, and, in return, I’ll give you all the love and loyalty you could ask for! Please go to www.staffordrescuevictoria.org.au where you’ll find the Adoption Application.

It just means that a suitable application was received before yours. We encourage you to contact Jan at jan.hutton@optusnet.com.au every week to show you are still interested in adopting. As we will already have your form on file it will fast track the process when a suitable dog does become available.
