About Poppy ~ Mastiff X (on trial 17/2/2018)
Poppy is a beautiful and gentle, 7 year old female Mastiff Cross. She can be shy at first though with some kindness and affection she has quickly come out of her shell.
Poppy has been wonderful company. She will follow you anywhere if you let her and she is happiest when in the company of people. She loves to come out and watch me hanging out the washing or taking out the rubbish. She just wants to be around people all the time.
Poppy loves to eat and she will sneak other dogs’ food if you let her. She is very gentle when taking food/treats from people and has never snapped at food.
Poppy has had the opportunity to be around young children and was always very calm and friendly. She loves getting pats from adults and children alike. She has met a couple of cats. Upon meeting them she smelled them and then mostly left them alone.
With other dogs she greets them happily but does not seem to know how to play with them. It’s likely that she hasn’t been around dogs much at all in the past so she tends to ignore them after the initial greeting.
Poppy is quite timid and does appear to be scared at times. For example, she can be startled by loud noises and does not like when strangers are behind her. At the park, Poppy would rather wait and let someone pass then continue while they walk behind her. When she is scared she just needs a little patience and gentle encouragement (treats help too)
Poppy has improved with her obedience. She will now sit and wait to eat when we put her bowl in front of her. Her willingness to sit at other times is still developing. Though with her fondness for treats I’m certain she could quickly learn to sit on command.
Poppy would be best suited in a home where she could come inside when her owners are home. She loves people. She is quite happy outside when we go to work. She does not fret or bark, just patiently waits for us to return.
For more information or to meet Poppy, please contact her foster carer Jasmine on jasmineiler85@yahoo.com.au or 0490081746. Poppy is in foster care in Speers Point, NSW and is available for adoption interstate.
Poppy’s adoption fee is $200 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
