About “Rusty”, Shining with Happiness. Ballarat or Melb
His name may be Rusty, but this boy’s happiness shines like it’s just been polished! Rusty wakes up in a good mood every morning, and his top priority is getting a cuddle. He loves people, and lights up with joy when they give him attention. He likes to stop strangers in the street and lean into them for a pat – he has so much love to share.
Rusty needs company, as he gets worried when he’s left on his own. Otherwise, he’s relaxed and adaptable, and happy to spend the day sleeping after his morning zoom. Rusty has learned a lot in foster care, and can stay on his bed, climb up stairs (still learning how to go down them), walk nicely on lead, and stay out of the kitchen. He’s even learning to fetch, although prefers to pile his toys on his bed – until there’s no more room for him, and he has to carry a blanket over to sleep on! Rusty’s tolerant of small dogs jumping on him, but still learning not to chase them (not cat-friendly). He’s living well with two larger dogs, once they learned to respect each other’s boundaries. He loves gentle children, and will lie down near wherever they’re playing.
With his big squishy nose and expressive ears, Rusty is built for eliciting smiles and cuddles. And we shouldn’t laugh but…he has an awkward tendency to flip up skirts with his long nose! He can’t figure out why it won’t work with shorts though…oh Rusty, you are hilarious!

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
