About Ruby
Ruby is the sweetest little girl. A truly remarkable story of survival. She was found as a stray wandering the streets and taken to the RSPCA with an obviously injured leg. One of her hind legs was permanently dislocated at both the hip and the knee, her leg sitting at a right angle to her body. Despite this severe injury, which had been that way for a long time, Ruby seemed to just keep on going - walking around with this huge deformity despite the pain.
When Ruby saw our surgeons, they found she has a low grade heart murmur, an old injury to her spine, a completely displaced hip and a severely luxated patella. However the thing everyone who met her kept commenting on was her sweet and happy nature.
Our vets did surgery on her hip and her knee, but due to how long Ruby's injury had been like this, the surgeries were unsuccessful. Her muscles and tendons had healed out of position and pulled her bones back out of place despite every attempt to fix her. Unfortunately the only remaining option was to amputate.
We had wanted to avoid amputation due to Ruby's spinal issue as hopping on three legs has the potential to jar her spine. Sadly there was no other option as her dislocated hip was causing so much pain and inflammation. Ruby needs a gentle home where she will be able to get around without having to climb stairs. We would prefer Ruby does not go to a home with children due to her fragile condition.
Ruby has a delightful nature. She is sweet and social and loves everyone she meets. She is good with other dogs and cats however any canine companions would need to be gentle and not jump on her.
Ruby deserves to live out the rest of her life in a loving home where she can enjoy a good life where she's finally free of pain.More details to come
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside, Jindalee, Browns Plains or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heartworm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Ruby is a special needs dog. She has three legs due to her left hind leg being unable to be saved despite several surgeries. She also has an old injury to her spine and a heart condition.
