About Sarge (AV1001)
Sarge might be the most easy going drill sergeant you ever will meet - he certainly doesn't bark orders, in fact he hardly barks at all! This guy won't give you your marching orders, unless he wants you to march right back to the couch so he can sit next to you on it.
Sarge is a very lovable mature lad who is looking for a new barracks to call home, after his previous owner found himself with nowhere to live and nowhere for Sarge either. Sarge was owned by an older gent and all his life it has just been him and his dad. But with that said, he's had lots of new experiences in foster care and is taking it all in his stride! Sarge seems to be great with every person he meets, from small children to older adults. He would suit just about any home really!
Sarge has not lived with other dogs before; he can be over-the-top and seems to be selective with dog friends - he's best buds with some but not so keen on others. If you already have a dog at home we would love to arrange a meet and greet to see whether they will be compatible with the Sarge.
He has had some interactions with a variety of other animals including cats, chickens and geese and he didn't seem terribly interested in them when they were outside - so if you're on property or have a large yard with a chook pen, for example, he may be fine. However, inside the barracks is no place for a cat (in this guy's opinion) so a feline-free household is the way to go.
One things Sarge does not love, is being left home alone. He likes to be with his troops, supervising at all times. He would love a retired person or couple, a stay at home parent or someone who works from home.
Although he's getting on in years, Sarge is still a very strong boy on-lead so will need someone confident to handle him for his daily walks. Oh yes, did we mention that he might need a bit of a diet? Vets have recommended he lose 5 kilos! But any weight at all would be very helpful.
He's not very tall - just wide!
Sarge is incredibly loving and affectionate and rather goofy. His foster family described him, simply, as a big fat ball of love.
There's nothing quite like giving a second chance to an old dog in their golden years. You'll get a pretty heart-warming feeling from taking this guy into your life - and a new best mate!
Be amazing! Adopt today.
Medical notes
Sarge has some untreated skin issues that will require some on-going care from his new family. He has been receiving treatment for folliculitis (basically all his hair follicles are inflamed and irritated, resulting in lots of little scabs over his body). He's also getting some drops for an infection in one ear.
He's starting to lose his vision a little and we suspect his hearing is on the way out too.
But in general, he's actually a healthy boy. :)
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
