Hi my name is Stella, I was rescued from a house after the local council discovered me abandoned, along with my three puppies, my boyfriend and a mumma cat and kittens. My owners hadn't taken very nice care of us or their rental house. I was in really, really bad condition. I'd given my puppies everything I had and I was emaciated and suffering from pyometra. If the local rescue groups hadn't intervened along with council, I might not be here today. Thanks to their quick acting and getting me to a vet who issued pain relief and anti-vomiting medication, I have survived. OTC learned of my situation and agreed to take in everyone :) me, my babies, my boyfriend, and the cat family. I was put into temporary care in my town, and transferred down to OTC in Toowoomba. My puppies were old enough to be split from me and it was in my best interests to do so. So they went to one family, I came to another, any my handsome boyfriend was adopted by my original foster carer's friend, back in my hometown :) my feline friends remain in foster care together.
I received emergency surgery within hours of my arrival to fix my pyometra as I was quite ill and it was crucial to my survival, and time sensitive. I made it through surgery and within 24hrs it was obvious how much better I felt, and I've been improving ever since. With lots of love, tlc and vet work; I am on my way to a healthy and happy life.
I get along with dogs, cats and children. I am crate trained, and am an inside doggy. I like to be inside as part of the family so please don't try to make me an outside dog. I am such a nice dog it would be a shame to banish me outside. I am an opportunist and due to my history of being starved, kitchen bins without lids are free game. But I learn quickly and I'm learning not to try to find food everywhere I go. It's not my fault, I was starved and desperately trying to keep my babies fed. So like anything, I just need to learn. I will stand patiently as you open the gate to drive out each morning, and sometimes I'll walk onto the footpath to smell the trees but my recall is great and I know to run back in when my carer needs to lock up. I have no special diet or care requirements now that I am healthy again. My surgery went well and I am now happy, healthy and loving.
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following: real estate approval, fence repair if needed, outside shelter areas and look into the dog's breed dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed.
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applications may meet the dogs. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the dog at your home, or in a public place. If you have other animals they must be at the meet.
If at the meet, you and the dog get along- you have the option of either taking the dog on the spot (in exchange for the full adoption fee paid upfront, and contract signed)- or placing the dog on hold for up to 2 days without any holding fee applicable. When adoption begins you will be provided with 7 days' worth of food for the dog, as well as what brand and type of food it is, so that you may change their diet carefully and slowly, or purchase more, if needed.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold dogs for 3 days or longer, without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the dog, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters and so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit non refundable to avoid time-wasters, especially when it comes to puppies under 5 months of age. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the dog. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you pay a $100 holding fee so we can hold the dog for a week- the day you collect the dog you will sign and adoption contract, and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $50 is non-refundable.
During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic in your area and OTC will cover any treatment needed.
On commencement of the trial period, OTC will send you a copy of your signed contract, the vaccination cards, desexing certificate and microchip number implant details.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox.
