About Pippa ~ Blue Heeler (on trial 17/3/2018)
Are you a Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler lover? If so you are going to love Pippa who is a very special 18 month old Blue Heeler. As you can see from her photos she is adorable and has a beautiful temperament that matches her pretty looks. She has huge perky ears and a sweet, shy nature.
On top of being gorgeous and gentle, she has a very special quality as she is deaf. Her deafness doesn't dampen her joy for life and it makes her even more adorable in her innocence. Pippa is looking for a wonderful family who will commit to the sign-language training that deaf dogs require to help with communication.
Pippa is in foster care with a Labrador cross whom she adores - she gains confidence in his presence and they love to play. Pippa is very submissive and she can sometimes miss out on other dogs social cues when they want a break from playing. She needs to be adopted by a family with a calm, tolerant and playful dog who will become her role model and guide. She will need a home without birds, chickens, rabbits or cats as she thinks they are toys to be played with. She's not a fence jumper however she will dig under the fence if the soil is sandy so her new yard will need to have a dig-proof fence line with hard soil, bricks or concrete at the base.
Pippa is quiet and shy when meeting new people - she flops onto her back for belly rubs instantly. Her new family needs to keep her well socialised with walks and outings. She is great with kids - if there are children in the family it is best that they are older so that they can be involved in her sign language method of communication.
Pippa has already started learning basic sign language - Come, Sit, Wait and Good Girl. She's also learnt to have good eye contact and to watch her foster family's faces to help communication. She must remain on lead when out as it's too dangerous for her to be off-lead - she can't hear cars and you can't call her back so she will wander off in her own silent world. In her new home she must be allowed inside with her family when they are home so that she can spend time with you as one of her favourite things is attention and love from her people.
For more information on Pippa and her special requirements, please contact Jo on email jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com (preferred) or 0427 695 104 (after business hours) . Pippa is in care near Woy Woy, NSW Central Coast.
Pippa’s adoption fee is $450 and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments and micro chipping.
Medical notes
Pippa is deaf so will need to use sign language to communicate with her family. Deaf dogs can lead wonderful and fulfilling lives like hearing dogs. Pippa's eyes can be sensitive if she's been digging in the sand so her new family will need to monitor her play and clean her eyes gently if required.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
