About Peggy Sue ~ Shih Tzu (on trial 31/12/2017)
If you knew Peggy Sue, you would love her too! She is every bit as pretty as the song says, and such a darling girl. Peggy has a bit of a sad history. We believe when she was younger she was used as a breeding dog, then later bought by an elderly man. Her owner recently died, and she came to stay in care with us. She was not in a good way, matted to the skin, eyes very sore, teeth in not too good condition and walked very strangely.
So we bought this bundle of sadness home and had her to the vet first thing as we were worried about her eyes. The outcome of which is that she is blind in one eye, has sight in the other, but suffers from dry eye and will need drops in her eyes for the rest of her life. This works out to be about $100 for roughly 3 months. She has had a dental, had a few teeth removed and shined up the rest. She has had an x-ray of her spine which showed that at some time she has had problems with some disks, but doesn’t seem in any pain. We also shaved her and found her beautiful little smushie face.
Her foster parents have had Peggy Sue now for 6 weeks and in that time she has come out of her shell just a bit. She is a quiet little girl, and loves her food and bed. She also, much to her foster mum’s delight, showed that she loves to be rubbed lightly under her ear! She now comes for a pat, which is a huge step forward for this shy girl. She is toilet trained, and if she has access to outside will happily trot outside for a little wander around the garden, in fact she loves to examine the plants with you, and is very content to be near you. She can’t be in a home with a lot of stairs though as she gets a bit wobbly on her back legs.
We are looking for a very special person to adopt Peggy Sue. Her foster mum thinks she would do very well with a more senior person, or someone who is home most of the time. She needs someone who is seeking a little quiet companion (in all this time we have not heard her bark), to love and cuddle up. Peggy will need someone that understands that she can get scared of loud noises and will take a little while to settle in to her new home. She is very good around other dogs, and doesn’t really take much notice of them, so would be the perfect café companion!
Peggy Sue will need to be groomed on a regular basis to keep her looking her prettiest.
For more information or to meet Peggy Su, please contact her foster carer Mary on mary.glasbey@gmail.com. Peggy Sue is in foster care in Port Stephens area, NSW and is available for adoption interstate.
Peggy Sue’s adoption fee is $150 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
