About Meeya ~ Blue American Staffy (on trial 18/2/2018)
Meeya is a beautiful 18 month old Blue American Staffy. Meeya loves her soft toys and carrying them around. Meeya likes you to think she loves to play fetch, but once you throw that ball, she begins to taunt you with it. She will bring it back to you, drop it, and when you go to pick it up, she’ll grab it again and take off, she’ll run around you, pounce at you. It’s all part of her game.
She is great with kids (currently living with a 5-year- old and 7-year- old), although she thinks that she is a mini foxy and likes to try and sit on your lap, so I would recommend her not being in a house with kids under 5. My kids have nicknamed her BFG, or Big Friendly Giant (she is big compared to our Jack Russell).
I think Meeya was a small dog in her past life. She loves to pounce, play and roll around with my small dog; she just acts like a big playful sister. It is as if she is a small dog trapped in a big dogs body. She can be a little weary of bigger dogs and can be a little protective of her smaller friends, but this is something we’re working on. Meeya could be an only dog, she would love to be the centre of attention for a family or spend time in the back of ute enjoying a tradie life. She would also really
enjoy having a friend to play with and keep her company. Meeya is still learning her basic skills, she can sit and wait and we’re teaching her to lie down and how to walk on a lead. American Staffies are very strong breeds and she is no different, when there is a smell she has to sniff there is no holding her back, but we’re working on that.
Meeya spends most of her day outside but loves being able to come inside too. She can be a little shy at first, but once she gets to know you she really is a big friendly giant. She enjoys being in the company of humans so inside or out she will be by your side. She shows no food aggression towards adults, kids or other dogs. She travels well in the car and doesn’t mind getting wet, providing you're willing to get wet too. She currently sleeps in a laundry but has had a few nights snuggled up with my kids on their beds.
Meeya would love to go to a home with a good size yard so she has plenty of space to play, and a family that will spend lots of time with her or even as a work companion for a tradie. At the end of the day Meeya loves nothing more than to give you a cuddle, she loves for you to sit down next to her so she can place her head on your shoulders to get the full embrace of a human hug.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
