About Oscar ~ Whippet x Kelpie (on trial 29/12/2017)
Oscar is looking for his new family for Christmas, Oscar is an adorable Whippet x Kelpie youngster only 6 months old.
He is playful and affectionate and loves giving cuddles on your lap and will follow you around, often 'checking in' by nosing your leg or hand. One of his favourite things is doing the 'zoomies' racing around the backyard with his sister Clover who is also available for adoption. This is typical sighthound behaviour: bursts of energy followed by downtime, where they lie around sleeping. They love their toys, and will play happily in the backyard. They show typical puppy behaviour when greeting older dogs, (my two dogs) by mouthing and being submissive.
They haven't had a chance to meet too many other people yet because I've only had them just over a week, but I believe they have the confidence to handle different situations well because they've settled into my life without any problems. A big thing I've found is that puppies need a routine. On their first vet visit they were happy and confident, plus they received lots of pats from the vet nurses who took their photos and gave them lots of treats. It is preferable that Oscar is adopted with someone who has another dog.
Being a sighthound, Oscar should remain on lead when out walking unless they he is in a fully enclosed area, as they run very fast and their natural instinct is to chase by sight. Ongoing training is highly recommended so he can have the opportunity to become a socially acceptable dog who you can enjoy taking out with you. To be considered as their new permanent home, you will need extremely secure fencing and any prospective new owner will be required to have a fencing inspection done by DRN.
For more information or to meet Oscar, please contact his foster carer Linda on linda.anslow67@gmail.com or 0431 739 960. Oscar is in foster care in Lake Macquarie area, NSW and is not available for adoption interstate.
Oscar’s adoption fee is $500 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
