Nature
Justine is quite timid yet she will happily tear around the house in play mostly with her little shadow in tow when she thinks no one is watching. Justine really enjoys spending time in the cat enclosure where she has access to tubs of lawn and feline-friendly potted plants. When she is ready for pats and love, she tends to jump into one of the planters and wait to be patted. She has come a long way since going into foster care but does really enjoys attention – on her terms.
Lilla is a very timid yet cheeky girl. She allows for cuddles on her terms but enjoys a fuss quite a bit. She has a very cute little meow and is starting to talk to her foster mum more. Lilla will run and hide behind the scratching components of the climbing tower where she will stay so that one can give her cuddles (this is her sign for “give me love”). Lilla broke her front left leg and it didn’t heal quite straight, but she still functions well – it doesn’t slow her down or prevent her from climbing. She is a tiny kitten under all the lovely fluff, but her fur does get matted so she’ll need to be brushed or have some fur cut shorter during the hotter months.
Both girls respond to their names and nicknames, especially where food is offered. They are also multi-lingual. They speak Australian and South African meow (learnt from their foster mum’s well-travelled cats) and understand both English and Afrikaans. They would do so much better in a home of their own where they can get more time for play, love and cuddles.
Companions (Children, Cats & Dogs)
Justine is good with other cats and has managed to stay out of trouble with her foster mum’s one grumpy lady cat, but Lilla likes to pounce on her every now and then resulting in great growling and hissing. The girls aren’t tested with dogs but both seem wary when they hear them barking. They are also not tested with children.
Likes / Dislikes
Justine loves lying on lawn, it gives her a sense of security, thus she would be best suited to a home where an enclosure with access to lawn is available. She likes spending time in the cat enclosure looking at the birds and chases after moths/insects that enter the enclosure. Lilla plays fetch! She has a preference for a certain type of toy (a “hairy” toy with a specific bell in it) which she will bite and pull with her teeth while holding it with her nails. Lilla will allow belly rubs when there’s an opportunity to cuddle or pat her. The girls don’t really like being picked up, but they haven’t displayed aggressive behaviour in this regard (and they are slowly making improvements). Like most cats, they hate the vacuum cleaner. As for food, they love chicken livers, chicken and fish (fresh or cooked), and access to a variety of Iams food.
