Phoenix D3722

Phoenix is quite a character! SAFE has been told he is a German Shepherd x Rhodesian Ridgeback x Dingo although we can’t confirm that. But he’s definitely a smart, devoted and mischievous dog like that breed mix would suggest. He’s a very cuddly and affectionate dog. Here are some words from his carer, “If he wants attention he will demand it from you by pawing at you or climbing onto your lap. When I'm putting on my shoes every morning he forces his head into my hands and rolls all over my feet for pats. He gets along with my male dog very well. He's a big lap dog who just wants to be near you. He will attempt to sneak onto the couch when he thinks I’m not looking. I planned on adopting him but unfortunately am not able to anymore. He is a great dog and I hope he finds an amazing home.”

He's very playful and loves a good game of tug-o-war, against a human or dog. He loves to chew, so you can satisfy this need by providing lots of sturdy chew toys that can be swapped around, a big bone to gnaw, big frozen ice-blocks of stock or ice-blocks with something yummy inside. This active dog is a two walks a day guy! He’s quite rough and vocal when he plays, and a bit wary of children so a child-free home is best. He's cautious around new people until he’s introduced.

He will bark to alert the household to any noises he is unsure of. He walks really well on lead in combination with a head halter. Phoenix loves to go exploring when he’s off lead. His carers have been training him with recall and he’s doing well with that. He is hilariously stubborn at times eg he likes sleeping inside at night but he will refuse to move from his bed for his last toilet call unless he is physically picked up and taken to the door.

He eats good quality biscuits as cheaper food upsets his stomach.

A few hours in a plane is absolutely worth it for a remotely located animal like Phoenix if it means he has the opportunity to be adopted. Flights to Perth for dogs are capped at $150 thanks to QANTAS, and he can fly elsewhere in Australia too.
