About Adonis ~ Great Dane puppy (On Trial 15/2/18)
Hi, I'm Adonis and I'm a very special 4 month old male Great Dane x puppy. As you can see from my photos I am adorable and I've got a beautiful and gentle temperament that matches my suave good looks. On top of being a charmer, I have very special qualities as I'm deaf, vision impaired and have a heart condition. My medical conditions don't dampen my zest for life - they make me even more adorable and special. I'm currently looking for a wonderful family who can commit to the extra medical care and training that deaf, vision impaired dogs like me need over our lifetime.
I’m a real snuggler; I love giving and receiving puppy cuddles. I'm in foster care with many other dogs and I love being with them. Because of my deafness, other dogs can find my love for them annoying as when I’m really playful I sometimes miss out on other dogs social cues when they want a break. So, I need to be adopted by a family with a calm, tolerant and playful dog who doesn't mind if I'm in-his-face with friendliness and game playing. It is vital that I have a canine friend who will become my role model and guide dog.
I need socialisation and regular exposure to all sorts of experiences as I grow older and experience more of the world outside my yard. My perfect family would be one who understands my special long-term requirements. If there are children in the family it is best that they are older so that all family members can be involved in my training and care and all have plenty of time to spend with me.
Although I'm just a baby I'm about to start learning basic sign language - the signs I'll be focusing on are Good Boy, Come, Sit and Wait.
I've been for a walk on lead in the neighbourhood and walked very nicely. I can see well enough to see cars and people all the way across the road but I don't see details very well. I enjoyed the new smells, watching the traffic and I wanted to go up to meet all the people! When I'm older, I'll need a daily walk for exercise and mental stimulation. I am never allowed off lead when we are out as it's too dangerous for me because I can't hear cars, but I could get some freedom and exercise on a long 10 meter lead.
I am an inside puppy and must be allowed inside with my family when they are at home – even when I’m older. I enjoy playing in the sunshine in a safe yard with my canine friends. I don't require a huge yard but it needs to be safe and secure so that I can't hurt myself. I can negotiate quite well and even do zoomies once an environment is familiar to me. My heart is a little unsettled and can beat fast - when I first came into care my heart beat very fast. I've now settled in and my heart is still fast but it doesn't appear to impact my daily activities. My new family will need to monitor my heart condition as I grow and commit to whatever vet treatment is advised to give me the best chance at living a good quality life.
If you are a special family with a soft spot for special needs dogs and are willing to commit to our special boy for his lifetime then please contact Sue on 0415 367 144 . Adonis is in foster care near Glendale, NSW (Newcastle area).
Adonis is only available for adoption to the Sydney, Central Coast, Port Stephens, Lower Hunter and Newcastle areas as he must be returned for desexing when he’s around 5-6 months of age.
Adonis’ adoption fee is $500 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments and micro chipping. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Medical notes
Adonis is deaf and vision impaired. He also has a heart condition that will need to be tested and monitored as he grows. We are looking for a special family who will commit to Adonis' special needs in regards to his health and training.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
