About Teddy ~ On Trial 29/12/17
Introducing Teddy! Teddy is a beautiful, lovely natured 5 and a half year old chocolate Labrador. Teddy is very affectionate, loyal and loves nothing more than to be with his humans. Don't let his age fool you Teddy has the energy and playfulness of a puppy - he's bubbly and always on the go.
Teddy will need a walk or two a day to work off his youthful energy - he is very strong on lead so is trained to walk on a head halti which helps. We would like his new family to enrol Teddy into doggy basics training classes as he forgets his manners often (especially when there are so many exciting things for him to investigate).
Teddy loves his walks, the beach, playing with toys and spending time at the dog park with other dogs. He will require recall training so he can be let off lead otherwise he just goes off and does his own thing in typical goofy lab style! He would love a good sized yard to play in - due to his size and energy he won't suit an apartment or townhouse.
Teddy would suit a lifestyle where someone is home a lot or he has another canine friend as he can get upset if left alone for long periods of time. Teddy loves other dogs, big and small, and has no issues getting along with other pooches wherever he goes. He is also fine with friendly cats. He does love his humans most of all so he will need to be allowed inside whenever his family is home and to sleep inside.
Teddy would suit an active single or couple with no young kids. Although Teddy has lived with young children and is delightful with them, he requires an environment where his training can be the primary focus for a while. He has an amazing temperament but being a large and strong Labrador he is quite a handful without consistent training and boundaries. He may suit a family with older kids or teenagers (13 years or more) who are confident with big dogs and who can also assist with his training.
Teddy sheds a lot of hair so will benefit from daily brushing. He's also overweight so a good quality diet, not too many fatty treats and loads of exercise are on order to keep him trim and healthy long term. He is a beautiful boy who's a tad cross-eyed which just adds to his quirkiness.
If you love Labradors (especially the boisterous ones!) and are willing to invest time and effort into Teddy's training and integration into your home then he will be your most loyal and loving companion.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
