Tommy

Meet Tommy! Tommy is a 3yr old Cairn Terrier mix, and is such a sweet boy towards people. He is a young, active boy looking for a young, active new owner.

Tommy will be best suited in an only pet environment (no cats, or other small animals), with no young children. A calm home environment may be best, as he tends to get overwhelmed when there is too much going on.

With that being said, he definitely loves to get out and about! Even though he is small, this guy has a lot of energy he needs to burn off daily. A good walk in the mornings, and perhaps some short runs throughout the week will make Tommy a very happy boy!
Mental activities, through training or brain challenges, will also be beneficial in ensuring Tommy doesn’t get bored, and will certainly help the bonding process between him and his new owner.
Tommy knows the command 'sit' but other than that, he will need some work on his manners and learning some more commands.

Although Tommy has been terrific with every person he has met, he has shown that he can be reactive towards new dogs, and even the dog he came to us with. Because of this, it will be important for his new owner to continue safely socialising and training Tommy around other dogs, perhaps through a group training class with a professional, to help Tommy learn how to properly interact with other dogs.
Tommy will need to be walked on a lead at all times, and care will need to be taken if he is to be introduced to new dogs.

Being young, if this issue is approached safely and with the help of a professional, Tommy may in no time become a well balanced, and social little dude. He just needs patience, consistency, and the right owner.

Tommy’s new home will need to have someone home most of the day, as it seems he has always had the company of his mate, so it would be unfair on him to put him in an environment where he is alone 4+ hours a day.
