About Gilbert
Gilbert is a well-socialised, loveable and intelligent pup, with lots of energy to burn and love to give. Although an energetic boy, when it's time to be calm, he happily and quickly settles down.
Gilbert has grown up with cats, dogs, chooks, children and people coming in and out of the home. Being a sight hound mix, he likes to chase smaller animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs and tends to be a bit too rough with the younger cats - but he doesn't seem to bother the chooks or sheep and is maturing every day.
He is also very gentle around young children and toddlers, and does not jump up.
He loves his walks and a run off-leash at the park. He gets along with other dogs beautifully outside of the home. His naturally dominant personality will mean that he needs an owner who will be able to keep on top of his behaviour and ensure he sticks to the set rules and boundaries.
He is quite relaxed when human visitors enter and exit the home, and stays on his bed.
Gilbert is toilet trained and crate trained. He is doing well with his obedience and knows several commands (sit, drop, stay, leave and out). His manners on leash have improved exponentially. He follows along quite well.
Being a pup, he still gets excited when playing and running around with other dogs and people, we are working on his impulse control.
He will require an owner experienced in dealing with defiant/dominant dogs. Consistency from day one, and following through will be essential for Gilbert to know who is boss. When rules are set in place (such as not allowed on the couch), it will be important to stick to them, as if he is allowed to break one, I feel he may have some fun seeing what other rules he will get away with breaking - as is the case with many dogs.
Gilbert has previously had some resource guarding issues around food towards other dogs. However, since coming to me he has improved in the area and is quite happy to wait his turn, is very patient and even is ok with sharing his bowl occasionally.
In conclusion, an active and adventurous owner, with a larger sized yard/acreage, who is wanting to give a beautiful pup a forever home, is able to give Gilbert the mental and physical exercise he needs to help him continue to grow into a well-balanced adult, and has their own adult dog to for Gil to learn from and keep him company, will be ideal.
Gilbert currently sleeps inside, but loves his outside time during the day.
If you believe you may be the one for this fun and special rescue pup, we would love to hear from you!
Gilbert is located in Ballarat.

Adoption details
If you think one of our animals would be a good match for your home please email us and we will be in touch shortly after. We all work fulltime, have families and other commitments so your patience is appreciated.
We do require any other dogs in your home meeting our foster animal before they head home with you. This enables us to assess their compatibility and helps prevent them being returned and creating more confusion/insecurities for the foster animal.
All our animals are available for a two week trial with full refund. They are also covered by a lifetime return policy. If you ever find yourself unable to care for or keep your pet please contact us and they will come back into our care, this is a condition of our Adoptions.
