About Chico
PLEASE NOTE: Chico is only available to a Border Collie or working dog experienced home and is not available for interstate adoption.
Chico was surrendered to us as his owner never walked him and he spent almost 4 years of his life in the backyard. He loved the cat he lived with (who sadly passed away) and lived with a smaller dog. But Chico was not allowed inside ever and spent his nights outside sleeping under the house. Essentially he is a puppy in a big dogs body, experiencing everything for the first time.
While in our care he has received training with our behaviourist and we have continued training while he has been in foster care. He had never been on a lead, and has learned to walk on a lead relatively well.
He is currently living with a foster dog and they both enjoy play fighting with each other. At first, Chico was confused and didn't know what play fighting was. But now, he enjoys the play time and has learned a few things off his foster brother.
Chico's favourite raw food is chicken frames and kangaroo tails. He is fed separately to his foster brother, as he likes to keep food all to himself and can get a bit cranky. He can be fed treats with a dog sitting next to him without a worry.
We are still working on getting Chico out in the real world as he really hasn't seen much of it being locked up for most of his life. He can be cautious/nervous in new places, and we always introduce new people to him gently. A few strangers have stopped by his foster home and he warms up to people quickly. Chico prefers teenagers and adults, so a home without children is a must.
Chico still has a few Border Collie traits which is why he can only be rehomed to a home who have experience with the breed and understands them.
Chico loves to play with the hose, although is not a fan of bath time! He is being booked in to get a hair cut to relieve him of his thick fur before the Summer heat sets in, something we think he has never experienced.
Chico has so much love to give, and just needs an understanding forever home.
Medical notes
Chico is desexed, vaccinated, wormed and is receiving monthly flea and tick treatments.
