About Gizmo ~ Chihuahua X (on trial 3/12/2017)
Hi, I’m Gizmo, a pocket-sized 7.5 year old Chihuahua. Although my build is tiny, my heart is huge and I will love you with all of it. I simply adore cuddles and love to sleep with you on your bed. Because there’s so little of me, I feel the cold so will need to wear my coats in winter, and love the air con in summer but not too cold please.
My carer Maria says I’m a great watch dog too, as I’ll let you know when anyone comes around with my 'Radar Ears’. I’m an inside dog. I'm house trained and can use a doggy door to let myself out when nature calls. I’ll come back inside again but do love to explore every section of your fencing, just in case there’s a tiny hole or gap that I can squeeze myself through just to look around as I’m adventurous and just can’t resist all those lovely smells calling me. I will need a very secure yard as I don’t trust myself not to go a roaming.
I'm very well behaved just call out my name and I’ll come to you wherever I am. If I’m doing something you don’t like then just say “Gizmo what are you doing?” and I’ll stop.
I am the sort of dog that will suit a retired person who is home most of the time and happy to take me on regular walks as I do enjoy doing all my ablutions on my walks. I can stay home alone for short periods while shopping etc. is done and can live with other dogs but because I’m so tiny they must be small as well and I really want to be on your lap as much as possible.
The best family for me would have no small children as I am so tiny and can be hurt easily and small children may not understand that, also someone who is home a lot. I wouldn’t mind another small dog but don’t need a rough and tumble play mate. I had a sore hip for a time due to being kicked by a horse or something and it is all better now, but I can’t take the risk of rough play with big dogs or small children.
I do get on well with other dogs when properly introduced but will growl if a big dog gets in my face (a man needs to protect himself). I’m a joy to walk and love meeting people and other dogs along the way. My favourite toy is a tiny ball. I love small tiny bears as well.
I’m not a fussy eater and don’t require a lot but do have some preferences which my carer will make a list. I like my food warmed up a little too. I’m not high maintenance but require a regular brushing as I do shed hair at change of season.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
