About Ash ~ Kelpie X (on trial 3/1/2018)
Let me introduce you to Ash! He is an 11 month old Kelpie X. He had a bit of a rough start in life so will need someone who will be patient and continue to teach him that not all people are scary.
Ash is still quite young so will need someone who will take their time to train and continue to teach him manners. He is a quick learner and already knows “sit”, “wee wee”, "no" and "stay". He has not had an accident inside the house yet! He is learning the basics and is motivated to figure out what you are asking of him, he also enjoys the attention. Ash responds well to positive reinforcement and reward based training and this should be continued.
Ash would be fine as an only dog if you don’t work away from home, but if you work full time Ash would like to have a canine companion for company. Preferably a dog of similar size or bigger. During the day when we are at work Ash and his foster brother have toys to keep them stimulated. They also have an undercover area with a kennel and soft bedding to sleep on. He has not made any attempts to escape. Ash has been in foster care with another male dog, approximately 8 months of age. He has gotten along with all dogs he has met so far. He has not been around cats or pocket pets since coming into care. He is friendly and warmed up really quick to our friends 8 year old son.
Ash’s ideal home would be with someone who has time to spend with him and help him be the best dog he can be. He enjoys his walks and does keep a pace with you if you lightly jog. He enjoys the different smells he comes across. He likes to play fetch and chasey with his foster brother. He also loves his belly rubs! Both Ash and his foster brother sleep in our room on their own beds. They sleep soundly until we wake.
Ash is nervous around new people and it can take him up to 2 weeks to understand that you are friendly. Once he trusts you, you will have gained a friend for life. If someone enters the house and he does not see you welcome them in, Ash will start barking at what he thinks is an intruder! Ash is waiting to meet you!
For more information or to meet Ash, please contact his foster carer Molly on mollie.blatch@gmail.com or 0409 571 170. Ash is in foster care in Maryland, NSW (Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Ash’s adoption fee is $500 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
