Jem

Never has there been a rabbit more deserving of a happy ending than our Jem. About a year ago, Jem and his mother Scout found themselves on death row at a Melbourne Pound, having been picked up as strays and not claimed. Homeless Hounds took in these beautiful buns, who were very much bonded, and it was not long before they were adopted. Happy ending right? Unfortunately poor Jem's story was only just beginning. Homeless Hounds received a call from another rescue a few months later to inform us that Jem and Scout had been surrendered to them by their new owners. Because we were listed as the original owners on their microchips, we got this phone call, and moved heaven and earth to find a spot for them with us again. We have no idea what happened during their time at their new home. They came back to us completely different bunnies. They had been confidant and friendly, and loved a cuddle. They were now very timid and fearful and needed lots of TLC in order to trust humans again.
Just when the work with their foster carer was finally starting to pay off, and they were starting to come out of their shell again, Scout was diagnosed with cancer and a short time later she passed away. We now have one very lovely but lonely bunny here in foster care, who desperately wants a forever home to call his own. We don't think, given his previous experiences, that he would really suit a home with kids. Possibly older and respectful secondary school aged kids would be fine, but very little kids may be too overwhelming. He still loves a pat, but isn't the biggest fan of cuddles and being picked up. Jem is full of energy as he still quite a young bun, and he would love the opportunity to run and frolic - preferably with a friend.
