About Nelly *** cat friendly *** assisted rehome
***************************** Please note that Nelly is not with Starting Over, but we are helping her owner with an assisted rehome *********************
Nelly loves people. She loves keeping you company while you go about your day. She loves to keep you company in the kitchen (and she's especially good at picking up the kitchen scraps!). Nelly loves to cuddle, and will always be up for pats, cuddles and love. Walk time is favorite time, and she will go with you anywhere and keep up for as long as you want to run or walk. She also will happyly play tug of war or fetch until the cows come home.
Nelly is fine with confident cats.
She would do well in a home with adults and older children (not sure how she goes with small kids, she has never met any). Nelly would also be great for a young couple or household who have to leave the house during the day and are looking for a dog who is okay with that, as long as she gets lots of love and attention when people get home from work.
Nelly knows basic commands - sit, stay, shake, and wait to cross the road. She is very smart and picks up new things fast and will do anything for treats.
She is happiest when she is with her people. Having said that, she is okay to be left alone while people go to work for the day. She can keep herself entertained and will be okay left outside with toys and appropriate shelter during the day. She is excellent as a bed warmer, and will happily curl up beside you at night.
Can get a little frightened when meeting new people so I would suggest not letting strangers pat if her tail is tucked between her legs but after a couple of minutes of getting to know someone she will be begging for pats. She is great around people and will settle down around larger dogs given time, but she hasnt met many small dogs, so would proceed with caution.
Nelly will become excited and pull on her lead when she sees another dog while walking.
Jumps on people to greet them when they come over (out of excitement)
Will chew things if not walked regularly and given toys.
She can get very excited about the world around her, and sometimes that exuberance needs to be reigned in a bit, but as soon as you tell her whats what, she will look up at you with those big brown eyes and furiously wag her tail to tell you she's sorry for whatever mischief she's gotten herself into this time.
Nelly is absolutely fine being an only dog, and is happy having a cat as a friend.
