About Calypso
Dear Calypso is such a charming and loving girl. People who meet her on her walks, including kids, warm to her straight away, and she just loves to make new friends. She is young and playful, but also quite attentive to commands, which she is learning quickly. She comes straight back to a whistle, can sit nicely on command, has quickly learned not to jump up, and is learning "stay" and "leave it" at the moment. Its fun teaching her things because she learns so quickly and enjoys her lessons. Calypso plays chasey and tug games with the other youngsters and is very sweet and considerate with the puppies. She is good inside and knows to play with her own toys. She's past the chewy stage anyway. Calypso is fully house trained and can be safely left inside when her human goes out.
Calypso came to us when a Good Samaritan found her at the side of the Stuart Highway between Barrow Creek and TiTree, emaciated and dehydrated, with a broken front leg. We think she might have fallen from the back of a ute, then been hit by a car. She was diagnosed with a broken radius and ulna in her right front leg. The Vet inserted a rod, and she was in plaster for 6 weeks until that was removed. It didn't stop her though. She just held that heavy leg up and ran around anyway. The rod has been out for 2 weeks, and its all healed really well. She is now running around normally with just a slight limp, but it is improving so fast that we think her injury will be undetectable very soon. At present she is in foster in a home environment in Elliott NT and having 2 short walks a day to build her strength and endurance.
Our rescue and rehabilitation work happens in Central Australia, but because of the scarcity of adopters locally, our re-homing operation is in South Australia. Calypso's adoption fee includes crate hire, courier transport by road from Tennant Creek to Alice Springs, and a direct flight from Alice Springs to Adelaide.
