Hi I am Bernard and I am super excited to find my new family!
My brothers and I came into care at 4 1/2 weeks old and we are now ready to be adopted. I'm a cool little guy, but I won't stay little for long.
I sure am a funny little guy and I always have my foster family laughing at my antics. I love to run and play. My favourite activity is playing with balls though! At my foster house I have a soccer ball that is bigger than me but I love to run and chase it around the yard. I have some pretty awesome soccer skills too, I must admit.
I've been raised with kids, cats and other dogs and I am great with everyone. In fact, I love everyone. I am really easy going and down to earth. Sometimes I can get a bit sooky, but that is just when I want some attention and some snuggles.
I sleep both inside and outside and I don't make a single noise until it's time to wake up.
My toilet training is going well and I hardly make any mistakes now.
I LOVE dinner time and I sit and wait patiently for dinner but the second I am allowed to eat I eat SUPER quick. So sometimes my foster mum puts my food in a wobbly kong to slow me down. At first I hated it but now it is kind of fun.
Because of my size, it's important you look after my dietary needs. Good nutrition is important when raising healthy large breeds (gotta protect my hips and knees!). I currently eat BlackHawk Large Breed Puppy biscuits, which is only $5-$6/kg. I would also love a hammock bed so that when I'm an adult I'm not putting too much pressure on my joints by sleeping on hard surfaces. I will have a medium energy level, so while I'll love my daily walks and park trips, I won't be a high needs boy! I'll be your walking buddy and your movie marathon buddy. Best of both worlds!
Included in my adoption fee: - Vaccinations kept up to date while in care - Worm/tick/flea treatments kept up to date while in care - Starter pack of food - Desexing - Microchip implant and chip changed into your name - A small donation to OTC which helps keep them running! Adoption fees help cover the database, sanitation, transport and advertising fees to they can rescue more dogs.
Medical notes
Happy and healthy. Has had first vaccination and microchip implant, and flea/tick/worm treatment is up to date. Any vaccinations due after date of adoption are the financial and ethical responsibility of the adopter. Desexing is paid for upfront, as part of the adoption fee. It is non negotiable and must happen by 7 months of age. Simply present your pet to one of our OTC-approved clinics and we will pay for the surgery.
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following: real estate approval, fence repair if needed, outside shelter areas and look into the dog's breed dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed.
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applications may meet the dogs. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the dog at your home, or in a public place. If you have other animals they must be at the meet.
If at the meet, you and the dog get along- you have the option of either taking the dog on the spot (in exchange for the full adoption fee paid upfront, and contract signed)- or placing the dog on hold for up to 2 days without any holding fee applicable. When adoption begins you will be provided with 7 days' worth of food for the dog, as well as what brand and type of food it is, so that you may change their diet carefully and slowly, or purchase more, if needed.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold dogs for 3 days or longer, without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the dog, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters and so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit non refundable to avoid time-wasters, especially when it comes to puppies under 5 months of age. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the dog. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you pay a $100 holding fee so we can hold the dog for a week- the day you collect the dog you will sign and adoption contract, and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $50 is non-refundable.
During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic in your area and OTC will cover any treatment needed.
On commencement of the trial period, OTC will send you a copy of your signed contract, the vaccination cards, desexing certificate and microchip number implant details.
