About Roxy ~ Adopted 3/1/18
Are you a Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler lover? If so you are going to love me and find me completely irresistible! I'm Roxy and I'm a very special 6 month old Blue Cattle Dog puppy. As you can see from my photos I am adorable and I've got a beautiful temperament that matches my stunning good looks. I have quirky, lopsided ears and a grin that will have you smitten with me from first sight.
On top of being gorgeous and affectionate, I have a very special quality as I'm deaf. My deafness doesn't dampen my zest for life and it makes me even more adorable in my innocence. I'm currently looking for a wonderful family who can commit to the extra training and care that deaf dogs like me need over our lifetime.
I’m a real sweetheart with my humans and I enjoy making new friends with people and dogs alike. I'm in foster care with 2 small dogs and I love playing with them. Big, small, young, old - I love being friends with everyone! Because of my deafness I can sometimes miss out on other dogs social cues when they want a break from playing. So I need to be adopted by a family with a calm, tolerant and playful dog who doesn't mind if I'm super friendly. I won't do well in a single dog family sorry as I love to follow other dogs - I'm simply not confident in my silent world without another dog.
I am quiet and gentle when meeting new people so my new family needs to keep me well socialised as a pup and commit to my constant socialisation as I grow older and experience more of the world outside my yard. If there are children in the family it is best that they are older so that all family members can be involved in my sign-language training.
I've already started learning basic sign language - I'm learning Come, Sit and Good Girl. I'm also learning to have good eye contact and to watch my foster family's faces. Learning to look at my family for guidance is very important for my sign language training and for my long term communication and social skills.
I'd love a daily walk or run (when I'm older) for exercise and mental stimulation. I am not allowed off lead when we are out as it's too dangerous for me - I can't hear cars and you can't call me back. I am an inside/outside pup and must be allowed inside with my family when they are at home – even when I’m older. I enjoy playing in the sunshine in a safe yard with my canine friends. I will need to sleep inside at night.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
