About Ruby ~ Kelpie X (on trial 17-1-2018)
This beautiful girl, Ruby, is a gorgeous Kelpie cross around 5 years old. She loves pats and human company and currently accepts a (way too noisy) rainbow lorikeet as part of her pack. She’s completely chill with kids, storms, grandmothers and fireworks. She’s friendly with other dogs and loves a play, but on a permanent basis we think she’d prefer to have her people to herself. As for cats, well it depends on the cat.
Her current carer works from home and there are people in and out all the time. Ruby Tuesday greets them all with calm affection. No jumping, no barking, but she’ll escort them down the garden path to the office and if they sit she’ll sit beside them. If they pat her she’s theirs for the duration. She absolutely understands the words, “Ruby, enough with the love” and will back off (oh, a meter or two and flop to the ground with a sigh).
Loves cheese. Doesn’t like the garden hose. Random facts!
She’s on the big end of medium-sized and can be strong on lead when excited (we’re working on it). A big yard’s a plus when it comes to playtime. Attach a rag to a rubber chew and there is chewy bliss! She’s responsive to the energy of those around her and can be playful when you want her to be or will lie happily for hours at your feet while you work on the computer or mainline Netflix.
Ruby Tuesday sits for food, is super gentle when taking treats from the hand and knows who gets to go through any door first. Hint: it’s not her. She currently sleeps in a kennel outside and prefers it to sleeping indoors. She’s not a barker, has one digging/hidey hole in the garden and one special bathroom area. This is her choice—no training involved. She has no separation anxiety and neighbours can confirm that she stays quietly in the garden when people aren’t home. We’re high-fenced and fully enclosed.
Six months ago Ruby and her 8 one-day-old puppies came to Dog Rescue Newcastle on a Tuesday so that's how she got her name. She and the pups had been surrendered to a country pound, and they weren’t in the best of condition. For more on those days, there’s a Facebook page that tracks her progress—from puppy-raising to putting on weight to learning house rules and good doggy manners. (https://www.facebook.com/Ruby-Tuesday-Needs-a-Home-887268114769828/).
As for devilish good looks, there is one thing to consider: Ruby’s puppy-feeding days have left her with a bit of a saggy undercarriage. She’s come a long way since her early pics but her teats will always show.
Ruby is super attentive and so willing to please, so if you’d like to know more please contact Lauren by email to hitthesand@hotmail.com. Ruby is in foster care in Gosford, NSW, and is available for interstate adoption.
Ruby’s adoption fee is $350 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
