About Poppy ~ Labrador (on trial 2/11/2017)
Hi my name is Poppy and I am a 2 ½ year old female Labrador. I absolutely love water and belly rubs. You can start patting me on my head but I will roll over for that all important belly rub! I am just a big ball of lovable fluff who my foster parents think needs to lose a bit of winter weight! I just love food and it’s typical of my breed.
I am very friendly with other dogs. My foster carer doesn’t have any cats or pockets pets so they are unsure of how I will be when I am around them. I also haven’t been around young children since coming into care. My foster parents think I will be best suited to older children in the household who can enforce boundaries for me.
My foster carer’s work full time. I am left in the yard with my foster brother who is a 7 month old Kelpie X while they are at work. They leave the yard scattered with toys that I can play with on my own or with my foster brother. I love playing tug-o-war and fetch. When they come home I am welcomed inside with lots of cuddles and kisses.
I am spoilt for choice on where I sleep. I can either sleep on my foster carer’s bed or on my own bed but I have resorted to sleeping on their bed to start off with. Throughout the night I usually go back to my own bed so that my foster carers can get a better night’s sleep.
I am toilet trained. I will either go outside to do my business on my own if the door is open or my foster carers will regularly take me out. I am not a nuisance barker. If there is a dog next door to where I live and they are constantly barking I will start barking as I think they want to play with me, otherwise my foster parents do think I am very well behaved.
I love my walks. I pull a little on the lead initially but my foster carer’s are training me not to. I knew a few commands when I came into foster care such as sit, stay, shake, mine, and on your bed. My foster carers are solidifying what I have learnt so far and I am getting rewarded for it, how good is that! My ideal home would be where my new family has another dog that I can play with, or someone that is home most of the time. I would like reinforcement on what I am learning and I need to be taken on walks everyday for exercise and stimulation!
For more information or to meet Poppy, please contact her foster carer Jasmine by email, drn.jasmine@gmail.com. Poppy is in foster care in Medowie, NSW 2318 (Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Poppy’s adoption fee is $500 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
