About Audrey
** AMAZING AUDREY **
Audrey is a 10 month old great dane x mastiff x wolfhound. She came into care with her sisters Grace (now adopted) and Marilyn. All the girls are deaf and have microphthalmia. Unfortunately for Audrey, the extent of her microphthalmia meant that she was experiencing significant discomfort and as such, she had her eyes removed in late July.
Audrey copes wonderfully without hearing and sight. She is a beautiful, happy dog who has no idea she’s any different to any other dog.
Audrey has been trained with touch commands since she arrived in care. She knows how to sit, drop, stay and come. She has great meal-time manners and walks beautifully on leash. Audrey is crate trained and toilet trained.
Audrey is a bright, friendly dog who loves people and other dogs (she's currently living with a French mastiff and a deaf English staffy). Although she’s not as large as her breed mix may suggest, she is still a big girl with a strong personality (there’s no mistaking the mastiff in her!) so if she was living with another dog, she would do best with a large dog – preferably a male with a calm temperament who is happy to play with Audrey but who also enjoys quiet time.
Audrey is good with kids, but is best suited to a home where the youngest residents are in their mid teens. She isn't suited to a home with cats or pocket pets.
A family experienced with large breeds (particularly mastiffs) and that is committed to ensuring Audrey’s ongoing training and making sure she gets to be part of daily family life would be ideal. There is no expectation that Audrey’s adopters will have any experience with deaf and blind dogs and there’s certainly no need for that experience – life with a deaf and blind dog simply requires a different style of communication.
Audrey is located in Canberra, ACT. Although we do offer interstate adoption for all our dogs, our preference for Audrey is to find a home within the Canberra region where she can get to know her potential new family over a few visits and make a gentle transition into her new home. This will also enable us to give some hands-on training support to her adoptive family.
Medical notes
Audrey is deaf and blind.
Adoption details
Hear No Evil's Adoption process:
1st Step * You contact us to obtain an adoption application, and discuss the dog of interest.
Once the application is completed and returned it will be assessed for suitability.
2nd Step * A Meet and Greet with the dog and all members of the adopting family and and current dogs is arranged where possible.
This usually coincides with a Yard check to ensure the safety and security of the property on which the dog will be kept. - We understand that this is not always possible in interstate adoptions and this will be discussed on your initial contact.
3rd Step *Payment of the Adoption fee in full. The dog is then handed over with any belongings, and all relevant paperwork and records.
Transport arrangements are the financial responsibility of the Adopting party. Hear No Evil are happy to assist with departure preparations and ensuring the dog makes its transport connection.
Final step * Once the 14 day 'settling in' period has ended, the change of ownership microchip details are submitted, and the adoption is officially finalised.
