About Jasper (MD0003)
Hi! I’m Jasper. I love to watch what you’re doing, to sleep on my bed nearby while you work on the computer, to sleep on the couch next to you or to snuggle up with you. I am an active, intelligent young lad. As you can see, I’m very appealing to look at, so there have been lots of enquiries about me. But it’s important I get the right type of home. You see, I haven’t had any training until I’ve got to my foster home and there are things I still get anxious about, although everything’s so much better now. I love routine! And I’m loving my new life in foster care. And now we know what sort of home would suit me and where I’ll make my owners happy :)
I’m looking for a patient home where my owners will be consistent about giving me two walks a day, keep good boundaries and do some obedience training with me every day to exercise my brain too. This will all to help me to be the best dog I can be. I’ve already become much more relaxed than when I first came into foster care.
I am house trained. I’ve learned to walk properly on the lead and I have good recall off lead. I’m still a bit too scared to use the doggy door unless it’s propped open, but it won’t be too long until I’ve mastered that ;)
I’m only learning how to interact with other dogs now, as my previous owner had an injury and couldn’t walk me. When I meet them when we’re out and I’m on lead, I feel a bit trapped, so I’ll circle to avoid them sniffing me and then I get tangled up! I feel much more confident when I’m off lead and know I can run away from them. When I’m off lead, I love to chase other dogs when they’re running after a ball. I don’t want the toy. I just love to run after the dog! But I don’t like being chased, myself. I reckon if you have a nice, calm, playful dog (maybe a female of similar size) that would be really awesome.
If I am left under stimulated, I will show neurotic behaviours from boredom - like fixating on any small dropped object (paperclips, pen tops). Sometimes distraction with a squeaky toy works, but my foster carers are finding that as I am growing in confidence, these behaviours are falling away. I don’t think living with children would be the best situation for me, as I’d prefer a calm, predictable home - and a place where not many things drop onto the floor!
I am not food oriented at all. I’m a picky eater and have a sensitive tummy - I’ll even turn up my nose at treats! But I’ve already put on a kilo in my foster home :) Obviously food is no good as a reward when you’re training me, but I do love squeaky toys, so they work great for training.
Are you up for providing me with what I need to be a happy, loving boy? I’ll be ever so grateful! And we’ll have a lot of fun with it too :)
