About Darling Dotti - AV991
This gorgeous big girl is just waiting to steal your heart. Affectionate and adoring, Dotti is seeking a doting family with love and time in spades and not too many expectations. Patience is a must.
Imagine living in a kennel with access to a run. For your whole life. A total area of less than 20 sq metres. Occasionally the opportunity to access a larger property, but never EVER to leave it. How would you possibly feel when you realised that this space was not, in fact the entire world. That there is actually a HUGE world out there? That you can see the sky from a new angle? We can't imagine it. But Dotti doesn't have to, because that was her reality. She was born on a rural property and lived there for more than two years without ever leaving - along with 5 other dogs!
Their owners did not mistreat them in any overt fashion. The dogs were loved, fed and never hit or chained up. But they had no freedom and they had no socialisation with the outside world.
Dotti got pregnant and was surrendered with her 3 adorable two week old pups. She was a wonderful mother to them and they have all now found their own loving homes - luckily, they have had a better start than her!
Because she had never before worn a collar or been walked on a lead, things have been progressing very slowly with Dotti's dedicated foster carer. With time and patience, she is learning how to walk normal suburban streets. Loud noises send her running for the hills and she panics (both at home or out and about) when large trucks pass or planes go over. She also hates the sound of the TV.
But she's coming so far. She's so gentle and sweet and just needs love and time. Dotti is not suited to living with children as their loud noises and quick movements would overwhelm and startle her. At this stage she has not had enough opportunity to interact with other dogs for us to say confidently that she could live with another dog, however, we suspect that a similar sized male who is more social and friendly, could really help her to blossom. On the plus side, she's totally fine to live with cats and is not interested in trying to get at or chase chickens!
Dotti's foster mum has now got her confident enough to run off-lead at the dog park, which she loves. She LOVES to sniff everything. She's would be a wonderful running partner.
Dotti is not an easy dog. She is a project for someone who truly wants to change a life, and unexpectedly have their own changed in the process. And it will be so worth it.
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
