About Possum
Possum is what we at SAFE Avon Valley call an insta-cat (that's patent pending, thanks).
So you don't *literally* add water but it's the same idea. Put this guy in your home and you're done. He's friendly, social and easy-going. Confident, but not so confident he'll be trying to bust out the window on day two. Friendly, but not so friendly that he will immediately like your visitors more than he likes you (because that's not good for anyone's self-esteem). Affectionate, but not so affectionate that you can never pee in peace again.
He's a mature chap so certainly not interested in climbing your curtains or scratching up your furniture, though he will have the occasional adorable bat of a toy in a surprisingly kittenish way. Possum is litter trained and not fussy with food - he does not like canned food and contentedly munches his biscuits. His glorious coat (this guy needs to do a pantene ad, seriously) does make him a little prone to hairballs, so a good-quality hairball control biscuit is advised. He will use a scratching post if one is provided.
Possum has lived with other cats and a dog before. He is standoffish when he first meets new animals but would likely adjust to having other hairy room-mates. Or he can be your one and only! He hasn't been around small children a lot, but his easy-going nature means he would probably be fine with kids.
Really the only thing to know with Possum (and, sadly, the reason he was given up) is that he has to be indoors. He has allergies, which have been extensively explored and treated by a veterinary dermatologist and can only be summarised as, he is allergic to the outdoors! Whether it is pollen in general or a particular plant we don't know, but he gets very itchy and ends up covered in painful little scabs when allowed outside. He doesn't have a problem with being kept in though, and will not make mad dashes for the door when you leave. He would be an ideal apartment kitty.
So come and add this guy to your life today and let him fill a hole you might not have even realised was there!
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
