About Claudette
Claudette's foster carer remarks that it's ironic that Claudie is regarded as a special needs dog because she is the easiest dog they have ever fostered!!
Claudie is our 10 year old, happy, cheeky, spirited little Chihuahua, Jack Russell cross, who loves nothing more than to snuggle or explore. It all depends on the time of day to which she enjoys the most!
Life hasn’t always been kind to Claudette. She came into care after she was hit by a car and her family couldn’t be found. The spinal injury she suffered was enough to stop any of us, but when her blood tests showed that she had Cushings, she could have been forgiven for giving up. But she didn’t give up. This little survivor showed us humans how to handle life’s drama’s, handling herself with grace, dignity and determination to get back on her feet and enjoy her life.
So much so, that this cheeky little munchkin decided that she would give climbing a go, and get out of her pen whilst her carer was at work. Bad move Claudette, bad move.
She suffered a jolt which inflamed her spinal injury to the point that she was paralyzed, and her carers feared the worse. But in true Claudette spirit, she battled on, and with the dedication of our amazing team she made a remarkable recovery!
Claudette has regained all her movement and again lives a full and happy life. Now we ensure she doesn’t cause any further injury with her joyous personality and zest for life!
Claudette doesn't mind being an only dog. We don't allow her to play with boisterous active dogs because of her previous injuries, she’s more fragile than most and needs to take life easy. So no more bounding around for this little one.
But if you have another older chilled out dog like her that isn't into playing at all, please apply. She’s very social though and would love to enjoy the view from your lap as you visit your local coffee shop, tai chi lesson, or just watch the world go by from a window at home. Wherever you are, is where she likes to be! She would also love her own little safe back yard as one of her favourite pastimes is snuffling around looking for lizards, check out her videos, she never catches them by the way.
Adopting a special needs dog is not something to take on lightly, but believe me, with this little girl, the rewards are worth it! Claudette deserves a second chance in life. She has fought the hard fight and is a true Aussie battler. So if you have nothing but love to give, can offer her the companionship and support she needs, she will give you nothing but love, joy and happiness in return.

Medical notes
*** Claudette is a special needs dog who will require daily medication for the rest of her life. ***
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside, Jindalee, Browns Plains or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heartworm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Claudette has Cushings Disease, which is when her adrenal glands produce too much of the cortisol steroid. She is on daily medication which costs about $20 per week.
She was hit by a car before she came to CRQ and has spinal damage. She takes daily gabapentin medication that costs about $15 a week. Claudette's spinal injury is inoperable, so instead she needs a calm life where she is not able to be overactive and cause further stress on her spine. She must not use stairs. She is a very happy dog with a great quality of life, but her spinal injury means she needs special care.
