About Willow (Australian Capital Territory)
Willow is a wonderful combination of Kelpie/Border Collie/Koolie/Cattle dog.
Not surprisingly for her breed mix, she is very alert, clever, trainable and affectionate. She absolutely loves cuddles.
Willow can use a dog door, is crate-trained and sleeps quietly through the night. She travels well in a car, whether in a harness or in a crate. She can sit and drop. Her house-training is a work in progress, but she is doing well for such a young puppy.
Willow is learning how to sit and wait for her food. She lives with three other dogs and is very dog friendly, loves people and has been socialised with turtles.
She is quite calm for a puppy and has an off-switch - although is a turbo-powered ball of energy first thing in the morning! She loves playing with toys, is very playful and loves balls.
Consistent with her breed mix, she is in need of both intellectual stimulation and enrichment as well as appropriate physical exercise. Working dogs like Willow find their own fun if they do not receive ongoing training and boundaries. She would do best in a performance home and will only be rehomed to an experienced dog owner. As she is very lively and has some herding tendencies, she would be best in a home with only older children or very calm younger children.
Willow would be all right as a solo dog but she is very sociable so would absolutely love a doggy buddy with whom to play and from whom to learn doggy manners.
Please note that Willow is still a puppy so should not do any hard exercise (long walks, jogging, alongside a bicycle, frisbee) until she is at least around 14 months old and she has finished growing. Until then, she should have only short walks and gentle exercise.
We are taking expressions of interest with a view to finding the most suitable ‘forever’ home available to meet Willow's (and her adopter’s) personality and needs. You can submit an Expression of Interest here: http://www.4lyfe.org.au/adoption-application to be included on the waiting list for consideration.
You can follow her progress in foster care here: https://koalathebear.dreamwidth.org/tag/willow
Medical notes
Willow is not yet desexed as she is too young.
