About Warlock (Cav17-102) *Free to adopt*
Where to begin with precious Warlock? This little guy is just a bundle of adorable. He is ever so sweet and quite charming with so much love to give. Warlock has a wonderful purr and a cute, demanding little meow that he uses to get food, or cuddles, or whatever his heart desires.
He is a smoochy little guy, though not fond of being held, and has an inquisitive nature and seems wise beyond his years as he is happy to sit back and take everything in.
Warlock enjoys the company of other cats and would very much like to be adopted to a home with an existing cat (or with his best mate Bruno!)
Warlock had a pretty troubled start to life so we are hoping that he can find a new home and finally be on easy street. He was born a stray and handed in to a vet clinic with his brother and sister at 12 weeks of age. He had not been handled or socialised with people and was terrified. Lashing out was his only defence and he did it regularly! His siblings were much friendlier and found homes a long time ago. A little while after coming into care, Warlock got sick with a respiratory infection. He was really, really ill, we thought he was going to die and the vets at one point suggested we put him to sleep. But we decided at that time to give him another 48 hours - and amazingly, he started to improve! His foster carer had him at home on a fluid drip to try to hydrate him and was regularly syringing food and medication. Throughout all of this he finally realised that we were trying to help him so he stopped fighting us and started to become friendly.
Warlock's illness was caused by feline herpesvirus. He developed a condition called herpes keratitis and we thought he was going to lose his vision but remarkably, he recovered from that too. He still has mild scarring on his eyes which will remain forever but it doesn't affect his vision and just makes him more unique. A lot of the fur around his nose and eyes came out while he was unwell and when it grew back it grew back white! Which is why you can see the cute little markings on his face - just another thing that makes him special.
Warlock is a very special kitten who deserves the very best. He will truly bring joy to your home and love to your heart and while it will be very hard for us to let him go, we can't wait to meet his perfect new family.
Medical notes
Warlock is likely to be a life-long carrier of the feline herpesvirus due to his early illness. This isn't too serious, but it has a few implications for you to be aware of:
- he is potentially contagious to other cats who have compromised immune systems. If you have an existing cat who is strong and healthy and has been vaccinated, he most likely won't make them sick. But if you have an elderly cat or one with an under-lying illness, this guy probably isn't for you.
- he may have flare-ups of his illness. This most commonly happens at times of stress eg if you move house, get a new dog, go on holiday. He won't get as sick as he was when he was little - if he does have a flare up, it will manifest itself as cold/flu symptoms that may resolve on their own or require a short course of antibiotics.
His illness is not contagious to people or other animals such as dogs so no need to worry there!
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
