About Dixie ~ Shih Tzu X (On Trial 23/9/17)
I am looking for a new home, perhaps yours! My name is Dixie and I guess that I would describe myself as a bigger than normal but oh so cuddly 3 year old Shih Tzu cross.
My journey began on Valentine’s Day this year when I was surrendered and given a new home with my present foster Mum. It was soon discovered that I was almost blind due to cataracts most probably as a result of back-yard breeding. Fortunately for me and the support of sponsorship through Dog Rescue Newcastle, I was given the expensive surgery necessary to save my sight. After months of care I am now fully recovered and I have the most sparkly eyes you would ever see! The only restriction I have now is that I must be walked using a harness so as to restrict any pressure on my neck.
Ask my foster Mum and she would tell you that I am the most loving cuddly dog that you could ever wish for. Thanks to my new eyes I now have discovered toys and I love to play with them. I get on well with my other foster mates except for one who has the nick-name of “Cranky Pants”.
Taking me on will require a lot of patience. As a result of my past and my blindness I am extremely timid. Having said that I don’t have a mean bone in my body and I would never be aggressive. Males are more challenging to me than females, when I am approached by someone I don’t know I will show my fear by barking and keeping my distance. My foster Mum has observed this and she has noticed that if I am given the time to get to know people, then I will slowly accept and trust.
I would feel comfortable in just about any family who can just give me the time to adjust and trust. Could this be yours? If you would like to know more, my foster Mum will be only too happy to answer any questions.
For more information or to meet Dixie, please contact his foster carer Anne on email anne_mccondach_3@hotmail.com. Dixie is in foster care in Abermain (near Cessnock), NSW and is available for adoption interstate.
Dixie's adoption fee is $500 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
