About Xena
Xena is a loving, playful young dog with an infectious joy for life. She loves to play with people, dogs and cats if they'll let her! She wants to say "hi" to everyone she meets and seems to have no idea of her recent disability. Xena has had a difficult road to this point, but nothing in her personality would indicate this! Prior to coming into our care, she was rescued into a new home full of promise. However, one of the existing dogs in this home took an immediate dislike and attacked her. She sustained numerous deep superficial wounds to both front legs and a broken foot, leading to emergency orthopaedic surgery followed by an amputation of one of her front legs. Despite the pain and uncertainty of her situation, Xena has shown strength, resilience and her ever-happy personality throughout all of this difficult experience. She still loves everyone - human and dog alike - and is happy going to the vet even after all the surgeries and follow up appointments that were required. She has not let any of these negative experiences dampen her joy for life. Knowing that his home situation was not suitable for her, the original rescuer surrendered Xena to CAWI the Byron Dog Rescue to give her another chance at finding her perfect forever home. She is now fully recovered and bounding through life as if she's always run around on three legs! She may do best as the only dog in the house, as she can be possessive of food and toys, though this is gradually improving with the dogs she is currently with in foster care. Xena is ready to embark on her new life with a loving, social family and can't wait to meet you!
Medical notes
Xena is a true "3 legs and a spare" dog! Following injuries sustained in a dog attack, she had to have one leg amputated. This has not slowed her down in the slightest, nor has it affected her love of life, people and other dogs. It may lead to some health issues in the future, such as arthritis or back problems, but so far she has made an amazing recovery and has an infectious joy for life.
